Hi All, Encouraged by Mark, I am starting this thread to show the process and progress of building my model of French WWII battleship 'RICHELIEU' from scratch in scale 1:200. I hope that I can post my problems in this thread as I go, and then hopefully get some advice from experienced modellers in this forum. Bear in mind that this is my FIRST ever model (apart from one made from matchsticks in primary school, and a plastic kit I made 30 years ago). I have now been working on the hull for seven month, and the first coat of primer has been applied. This should show all imperfectnesses - and it unfortunately did. So back to putty and sanding. This is the start in March 2007, 6mm plywood keel and frames: Then the planking, 2mm Australian pine: Planking finished, and sanding to begin: And this where I am today, 21 Oct 2007 : Only commercial items purchased so far are the brass propellers. Over the next year or so, I hope you will enjoy my progress, or maybe suffer with me a little if things go wrong. One thing is for certain: I am having a ball of a time here in my retirement trying to build this model of one of the most beautiful battleships ever to sail the seas. All the best from 'Down Under' Poul

Well done Poul, looks magnificent, and yes, she was a beauty, which was unusual for French Battleships, as they had previously looked like the back end of a bus! (excluding the elegent Dunkirque)

Thanks All,
Being a newbie to modelling, I can assure you that every little step, or detail, is a huge challenge in finding a way to do it right.
To build a first model like this from scratch, I guess demands a combination of ambition, patience, and a 'never give up' attitude. And nice comments like your's certainly help me to persevere.
Still a very long way to go, but I want to see it finished, and I promise regular pics of the progress.
Cheers .... Poul

Sorry to ask - but is it static? Or an R/C model?

It is a static model. The only water she will ever see is from the wet rag to eliminate dust before painting.

Here is a picture of just some of the numerous details I've been working on while finishing the hull. I had to spot-glue them to a thin strip of timber scrap for them not to be blown away while spraying with the primer. and one a bit clearer (but bad angle unfortunately) Poul
