It's not that big - about 19" long. The motor mount will come out with 4 screws - I thought about it and carefully made the mount removable, with the aid of some off cuts from the Bismarck ply. The motor will have to come out to have the cables soldered to it.

Frames all fitted now and the deck is fitted to. The deck is laser cut to simulate planks, but they aren't very bold. I widened the slots with the point of a file, and then lines then with a Gundam thin brown marker. Seems to have worked OK. Gundam markers are designed for Gundam plastic kits, and seem to be a paint marker. Hopefully it won't bleed when I varnish the deck !!

Nah, only 6 very big planks !! It's a cheat - it's a hard chine type construction, with laser cut simulated planks Now the worrying part is that on the first dry fit, there are several gaps between the first 'plank' and keel I think proper planking would be much easier..................

A bit more progress, the first pair of ply hull parts are on. Bending them into shape was difficult. I tried steam, but they wouldn't go right. I ended up resorting to soaking the in water for a few mins, and then holding them in place with rubber bands and clamps. This is the result. And here is what they look like glued in place. Unfortunately they are not the greatest fit inthe world, and there are some small gaps between the ply sheet and the keel. I've filled these on the inside with a moxture of wood glue and talc. This makes a thickish paste that can be brushed in place, and sets nice and hard. Of course, it will need filling from the outside as well, but that can wait until I've finished the hull.

Got another two pieces of hull on. The fit is a bit iffy. There is a rather alarming gap at the bow which will need a deft application of filler.

Hi Mark, sorry normally I'm one of the few that replies, but as of late I really havnt had chance to do anything of late not my usual self if truth be known but i digress somewhat. . I have been watching this build, im not an experienced builder but those sheets of planking look a bit fiddly to say the least! I assume you dont have as much play in them as say we do in the planks on the Bismarck hull.

Yeah, sorry Mark!
I am watching your build, it looks quite a challenge! It'll be interesting to watch it all come together. How does it compare to the likes of Sergal or other kit manufacturers?
I keep meaning to get back to the President, by the looks of it, you'll be finished long before me!

I keep meaning to get back to the President, Eric I have never seen what Sergel/Mantua produce ? Good kit ? I would expect the timber would be top class. Are the instructions of any use ? Do the parts seem reasonably to scale ? I ask this because I came close to ordering the kit some years back Baz
