I have a bit of a problem, I've decided I don't like the thick single layer planking provided in the kit and I also want to double plank the hull with a walnut veneer, now the problem is where do I get some thinner planking, about the thickness of Bismarcks 2nd layer hull planking is what I'm after for the 1st layer on the Jolly Boat. Someone on the course has some walnut veneer they can give me some of.

Hi Sky, You can find different timber strips for your planking on this website www.modelshipyard.com.au/products.asp?id=136I personally would try 1mm limewood, as it is very strong and flexible. They are very helpful people (I buy there myself), but if you are in doubt of what to choose, then send Gary Renshaw an email and he'll help you info@modelshipyard.com.au

I'd agree with Poul. Lime is much easier to work. Much easier than Walnut, which can be a bit hard.

The size of the boat is Length: 41.5 cm, Beam: 9.0 cm, Height: 36.3 cm Scale: 1/25. The limewood is what I want as the 1st layer and the walnut as a veneer on the 2nd level, (Bluenose wa done this way) and the walnut is a very thin layer. Thinner than the limewood and not that bad to deal with.

Bismarck and the Jolly Boat were going to be on display at a Model Railway and other models exhibition, but due to lack of space and other comittments, it won't be happening. I'm going to Sydney for the Sydney International Boat Show the same weekend. www.sydneyboatshow.com.au/They will be on display in October at the Canberra Model Shipwrights Society annual exhibition.
