Anyone in SA that can help me with the best paint to use for my airbrush, because I live in SA of course?
I tried different types of paint, thinned it a little, etc. but either it was too thick or too thin, or the paint is not sticking well to the surface.
I prefer to use water base or acrylic base paints.
Thanks.

Try Vallejo Model Air range. They are already thinned for airbrushing and work well. They are acrylic as well, so you can clean the airbrush in water I tried the Games Workshop paints, thinned with water. They sprayed really well on to the piece of card I used to test, but the paint just collected in large droplets when I tried spraying a model. It might have worked better using a proper thinner rather than water ?

Thanks Mark. Much appreciated.
I quickly discovered that it is not so easy to get a good quality paint for airbrush work.
The majority of paints out there would probably work for most people (whether you thin it a little with thinners, water, etc.), but if you need a paint that sort of does it all and with a high standard, it suddenly is not so straightforward anymore.
Will give your paint a try.

There are two major hobby brands of acrylic paint in SA namely Tamiya and Humbrol acrylics. Tamiya acrylics must be thinned with Tamiya acrylic thinners for spraying while the Humbrol Acrylics thin well with water. Not all of the hobby shops are stocking the Humbrol acrylics yet but if you get stuck drop me a PM and will check which dealers in your area do carry it ( I work for the SA agents for Humbrol so can see who we supply ) My suggestion for painting is to use Tamiya Grey Primer in the aerosol for all your superstructure parts as it is exactly the right colour and does not clog up all the photo etch detail.

Thanks for the info David. If I can get hold of your mentioned paint, I will give it a try.
Grantj, thanks also for your paint tip. Would appreciate it if you could drop me an e-mail for the suppliers/dealers. No idea where to get it. Did ask around, but so far without luck.
Somebody told me that Humbrol comes a long way and is definately one of the best paints out there. Never heard of Tamiya paint before. Sounds to be the one to get hold of, because it saves looking for the right colours, mixing colours, etc.

Hi Paul,
Not sure about primer for air brushing. I always use Halfords spray primer.
Once it's primed, just go straight on with the top coat, but use several light coats of course. No need for an undercoat.
