I use my dremel with various drum sanders. Takes the hard work out of it. However care must be taken a little bit at a time. I also sometime use a small file set to finish. Matt

I have had great success sanding concave curves by rolling up a sheet of sandpaper into a tube of about 20mm diameter. By using it along the valley of the curve at a slightly diagonal angle, it moulds itself to the curve and doesn't create grooves as it is not a rigid radius but flexible. You could save sandpaper by rolling up a sheet of thin card and using enough sandpaper to cover just the outside of the roll.

Well done Paul - I get a great deal of pleasure out of finishing sanding a hull. Usually followed by the grief of cleaning up all the sawdust !!

An easy way to check the sanded hull:
Give the hull a spray of red mat auto primer. Then sand very lightly with a sanding block (eg. an empty roll from toilet paper for concave areas) and fine sandpaper. This will lighten the area you sand on the primed hull, and everything left dark mat red needs to be filled and curved correctly - or, the surrounding area sanded further down.
Have fun,
Poul

Hey guys If you have loads of time and want to experiment then you could give my solution a try. Basically I made my own dremil too. Instead I used a light solar motor and multi voltage adapter. Combined with a nice thin tube for the shaft I made different heads out of sand paper and graphite paper and does the job. You can even get a piece of a wine cork and shape it down to the size you want and then spray glue and rough silica sand does the trick. Instant homemade variable speed fine sander.
