Started planking, I don't have an old kettle, just an electric jug, but I do have a pot with a steam vent in the lid, so I tried steaming, was ok but got a bit over excited and snapped one plank at the end so was salvageable. Then i tried soaking in hot water for ten mins. The soaking worked better for me all be it very slow going waiting for it to dry before finally gluing it in place. So I'm practiving being very very patient and hope everything turns out well. Will post some pics when i have a few more planks in place.
now....... if only I'd get some more parts of the Bismarck delivered I might be able to do some work on it!!!

Look forward to seeing those pics Pete. You've made a good start.
Your problem with the steaming might have been not enough steam, if the vent is a bit small.

So far, so good...... least hope so, having never built a wooden model before.. A bit slow going as we've just had our State short course swimming championships and I've been busy editing and reviewing footage with my swimmers, and have not much time for anything else.

Looking good Pete. I think you have been spot on with your choice for a first model. I opted for the Amati Chinese Junk, which is proving to be quite difficult -Very small parts and poor instructions.

Hi Mattyb, S.I.N.K. is a group of lads who are trying to arrange a get-to-gether. Mark and Cliff can tell you more but all I can add, is its a bloody long swim from Oz to UK? Dont want to tread on any toes, but maybe something similar could be arranged for our shipmates "down under"?
