Well done Gordon, yet another fine hull on the slips, the more so since the instructions leave so much to guesswork, and yes, Achtung/Chill yours is looking very dandy too...you just need a bit more filler on those beak-marks! beak marks?!!!

Hi Gordon, It's a good job I'm in South Africa or you would be reading in tomorrow's paper about a break-in in Ellon and the theft of a model boat! ;D ;D ;D
Excellent work!

Hi Gordon. Try using some polishing compound. That should give you a smooth finish. Excelent work so far only hope mine looks as good (i'm on for the fill rub down fill again rub down again stage). AlanV

AlanV, is it car polishing compound you are refering to?
Russ, your model will look as good it just takes a lot of effort at this part. When I put on the first coat it looked as rough as goats knees. look forward to seeing some pics.

Lovely finish Gordon, I'll be very pleased if mine comes out as smooth as yours. David

That's brilliant Gordon. Don't worry too much about the rough primer finish. Rub it down with 800 or 1000 grit wen n dry before applying a top coat. The primer doesn't want to be mirror finish, or the top coat won't stick properly.
If the problem is in the top coat you can use a cutting polish/paint restorer as Alan V mentioned.

Looking good Gordon, amazing what a lick of paint will do isnt it? My primer was also a bit rough, but noticed when I sprayed on the "black" band top coat it came out smooth. Was wondering is you used polishing compounds now, would this not make the final coats harder to adhere?? I would rather finish off the surface when complete with such polishing materials. (all this providing that the earlier coats are of course reasonably smooth). I have decided not to bother with RAL colours, as I am sure that in real life weathering would have made the paints change colour anyway, so am going for the nearest I can in ordinary acrylic car spray paints. (ideally, not gloss!)

Excellent job, Gordon. If mine is half as good as that when it's done I'll be a happy man.

Thanks for the comments guys and I take note of the recommendations on leaving the primer as it is.
Swanrail, Take your point on the RAL colours and I think I read else where in the forum that halfords red and grey primers are pretty close anyway. I was thinking of spraing a matt varnish over these primers. what do you think?
Gordon..
