Poul, as a general matter of interest, how many sheets of plans did you work from to get such great detail of all the parts?

Poul, as a general matter of interest, how many sheets of plans did you work from to get such great detail of all the parts? Mike B, The 41 shipyard drawings I downloaded from a French government site (Service Historique) were mainly good only for the hull. I also downloaded a zip folder from a Polish site. This plan showed a bit more detail (22 A4 sized sheets which I combined into one large sheet/e-plan). The best help, as far as details are concerned, came from a Polish cardmodel I bought from Moduni, and information I got from a French modeller who photographed (not scanned) 24 pages of his book on Richelieu - and then of course from various photos of the ship and by looking at other models. From that, I drew up most of the details myself as classic machine drawings ie. side, front, and top view. So to really answer your question, I actually haven't worked from sheets, but everything was scanned into my PC, and all work was done on my laptop. The advantage of this, is that you can enlarge the details as much as you like without loosing the measurements. I also drew and printed templates for most parts, and printed directly on the styrene sheets (up to 0.5mm thick) where possible. Here is an example: The 40mm quad Bofors AA guns First the drawing I made and this is the template for the shields which I printed directly onto a 0.25mm styrene sheet

Thank you all for your very positive comments about my Richelieu and for your help and support during the build. The launch party, to celebrate the hand over to the 'PW WWII Marine Museum' (conveniently located in my lounge room), is now set for the afternoon on the 5th of December, where I also hope to see Baz. Photos should appear soon thereafter. Apart from that, I'll keep a low profile for the remainder of the year while researching information on PRINZ EUGEN, so in due time I can start a new build diary. This doesn't mean that I won't check in regularly to follow what's going on in the family.

Unfortunately, I have a sad announcement to make: Due to an unforeseeable amount of images in my Photobucket account, I will have to reorganise them all into proper sections. So please be aware, that all my posted pictures in this build diary, as well as my pictures posted in other threads, will most likely disappear after the 1st of January 2010 I'll only post photos of the finished model in the 'Model Showcase' section.

I put my photos into seperate directories early on to avoid this problem. I'm up to 594 files total, but only at 3% of capacity of my account, are you sure your running out of room Poul. Just looked at your photobucket and it said 151 files for main page and 62 for Richelieu. I still have tons of space with my total number of files.

Could it be down to the quality of the pictures and size being downloaded?

That is a shame Poul. I'd stickied the thread as it was such a good read.

..... are you sure your running out of room Poul. I am not running out of room, but my pictures are in such a big mess, that I cannot find a picture when I need it. That's why I have already set up a dedicated section for Richelieu in Photobucket back in June - where I'll move all my Richelieu images to. So most pictures posted after 9 June 09, should not be affected. Mark, if you really think the whole thread is of general interest and of value to your forum, then I'll try to gradually work my way through the posts and replace the pictures as they are moved. (One by one ...... a long thread ...... a long process ...... sigh!!!)
