I have a problem. No matter what I try, I cannot get rid of the visible 'crack' where the deck section sits on the hull. Due to the design (i.e. the deck sits on top of the hull sides) I wondered if anyone else has tis problem and what suggestions there are for minimising the visibility of the joint.
I felt I did my best to get the centre section of the deck to sit snugly on the edges of the hull (all the way - on both sides) but still there are slight gaps here and there. Any views or ideas?
(I will post a photo to explain the problem if this will help - but remember I am not as good a model maker as you guys!)

hi felix, you might want to consider Swanrail's side extension, especially if you are going for an rc vessel, this will increase you water integrety as well. ;D

Thanks for replying so quickly! Can you point me in the right direction - I can't see the thread you are referring to at first glance.

Iv'e found it now.
I wish I had known about this site when I was working on the hull/decks, I could not understand why they had designed the build so that the deck sat on top of the hull sides - it was bound to show on the outside. I just didn't think of extending the hull sides so that the deck slotted inside - I thought that maybe they would have realised the 'design fault' and come up with something to 'mask' it in later issues.
I have had a look at my (completed) hull and will have a go at modifying it a la swanrail. Im not sure the finished article will be as good as his though as the fore and aft deck sections are permanently fixed now so I will have to work around this. (and the hull is fully painted with 1941 stripes n all and varnished. Oh well - but I must get rid of this crack!!

Iv'e just been thinking about a repaint, but I'm going to see if I can get away with it. I'm beginning to think I was wrong to paint the hull anyway when I considered it 'finished' as all the photos of others models on the site are just bare wood, they dont even look primed.
I'm on issue 61 at the moment (62 & 63 are out of stock and 65-72 are on their way). How bout yourself?

Hi Felix, quite a few of us have done Swanrails mod (actually, it was Markus that did this first), it was quite easy to do, and I have never made one of these models before either!
Have a go at it....you will be please with the result!

This is a pic of mine I took a couple of months ago, you can see how the hull os raised up above deck level.

Thanks for the pic - looks great.
Iv'e started the mod, I only wish I had seen the idea sooner. I'm using some spare 2mm strips left over from the hull planking. I assume the mod requires that you strip 2mm from each edge of the deck section so it fits snugly inside.
So far so good.

yep, thats right.
I think I used the planks from the second layer.....1.5mm, if I remember.
Sand the deck edge after you have done the hull. Sand and test fit, sand and test fit. Took bloomin' ages!

Hull mod is going quite well, it will need a re-paint though when Ive finished. Today I'm going to sand the edges of the deck section down by 2mm to fit inside the [new] raised hull - that should be fun.
What's the Snowberry? Is that another model? I have to admit I am looking for a 2nd model myself as I get fed up twiddling my thumbs waiting for new Birmark parts - I suspect many of us would have preferred it if they seny out the parts daily instead of weekly!
