i wouldn't suggest using revell oil paint as there are huge areas to be painted, such as hull or flight deck.
also all those tiny-structured areas easily lose their structure when using oil paint, especially with an additional coat of varnish
spray paints give a much thinner coat of paint, that's why i always prefer spray cans. using them makes varnish unnecessary
if you like i can get some cans and send them to you...

thanks markus i was going to use airbrush to do the painting, so how will that affect things? one thing i could do with is some cans for the hull of bissy, spray cans for the hull only as i cant get them anywhere here in ireland, and as i have prop supports and a/frames now, i want to install r/c and paint up hull. would that be poss. markus i have hull all filled , sanded , and primed with oil based enamel, so ready now for final coat, so if you could post over some spray cans of red and grey for hull that would be fab, just give me a price for gear and p and p, and i'll send it on straight away, so i might get something done overv xmas. thanks markus by the way , whats the best type of propellers are best for bissy, im using standard r/c as supplied by hachette? jc

hi jc !
don't know how water-resistant you airbrush color is, only know that polyurethane spray paint is perfect for a sailing model..
spray cans (400cl) are available in the following colors:
light grey: hull + superstructure (bissy and nimitz), planes (nimitz)
dark grey: hull, turret tops, deck (bissy), flight deck (nimitz)
red: hull (nimitz)
redbrown: hull (bissy)
white: hull (bissy), several parts (nimitz)
yellow: vehicles (nimitz)
black: hull (bissy), planes (nimitz)
gold: props (bissy and nimitz)
price in germany is 7 euro for all colors, except for redbrown this s a special anti-rust paint (important for a timber hull ;D), price is 9 euro in germany
so 10 euro per can should cover the shipping costs
the best (and most authentic) propellers come from lassek. these are M3 threaded, so you'd have to drill a 3,3mm hole and cut a M4 thread yourself....
remember you cannot use the propshaft supports from iss. 113 with the hachette gear....!!

remember you cannot use the propshaft supports from iss. 113 with the hachette gear....!! markus do u mean prop supports or a/frames markus... jc both of them the max. diameter is 3mm for the propshaft supports, maybe up to 4mm for the a-frames. so the only possibility is using a 2mm shaft which runs in a brass tube (inner dia 2,1mm/outer dia 3mm) markus markus

This is what I got, looking for some color directions for your model, JC. www.internetmodeler.com/2005/march/ships/Nimitz.php"Two things are glaringly missing from this kits directions. The first is a total lack of ship's history and technical information (the Tamiya Enterprise kit is excellent in this regard). The second is even more of a problem. The Trumpeter kit provides no detail painting instruction for any of the seventeen pages of construction directions. Fortunately, I had kept and often referred to the Tamiya instruction booklet. If you can put your hands on a Tamiya Enterprise instruction booklet, do so. You will find it invaluable. "The topside of all sponson decks and stern gallery deck and platforms should be a medium blue-gray, the hull should be Dark Compass Gray (FS 36320) and the lower hull, hull red with a black waterline boot. "If you think the Tamiya instruction booklet could be of some help to you, I have found on the net a nice lad in Melbourne who kindly offered it as a .pdf file to someone who looked for it desperately. (That was in early 2006, but you can try your luck by contacting both guys. One never knows.) www.carrierbuilders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=488Cheers and good luck, I'll cross my fingers for you. im really looking forward to this build skyfire, i imagineĀ it will take 2 months to finish, as soon as i figure out colour scheme, im building the nimitz ;between the bismarck issues arriving, and also the solar system, good thing is that the solar build is simple and fast.by the way i stated buying the TANK COLLECTION, i have the first, 2nd and 3rd issues got.deagostini are the suppliers. to anyone who likes tanks, this is defo for ya, the scale is 1/72. and the detail is perfect, and has moving turrets and guns. jc

Not seen the Tanks collection down under yet, also think I have enough part works collections going right now with Bismarck, Solar System, Flying Scotsman and Real Life Bugs. If it does come I will have a good look at it though.

well at last , and after much thinking , i've decided to build nimitz parts in bulk, and then airbrush these bulk parts , rather than painting individual little parts and then assemble them, because the painting instructions are so bad on the sheets , i think this is the best way to go .any little parts then can be touched up with a brush. any better ideas guys? jc
