hello guys. as a matter of interest how many of you guys are proper model shipwrights and scratch builders. i my self are still only a novice after 15 years of wood modeling. ive done kits and so far have built the bounty, nina, royal soverign and not quit. finnished my 1/100 hms victory. i have also built rc aircraft and have built, spits mk21, tempest, typhoon, vampire, me 109e ,fockwolf 190 d tankbuster i also have 2 scratch build air craft on the way but these 2 have been on the back burners for quite a while a 4 engine rc avro lancaster and a twin engine mosqueto bouncing bomb version. i suppose realy im not into the flying ones much these days as to my bad health and ease of getting about. also im a poor flyer , : ( i can take off fly circuits do stunts ok i just cant land the bloody things, i often flew on the edge of our flying field just so i could crash land in long grass on edge of flying field adjoing local golf course regards for now alan.

I've done a little scratch building, but not a lot. A control line aircraft many years ago that flew OK - a couple of flying rocket that didn't work very well. One wasn't very stable and nearly impaled itself on my dad's car (that I had borrowed for the day - I was really glad it missed !!) and a rocket that flew well, but the side boosters wouldn't separate properly.
I stick to kits for scale models as I can't be bothered to hunt out drawings and convert them into buildable plans. I do add detail to scale kits at times tho.

Erm no thats a FIREWORK my learned friend. The ones im talking about are on the 'quit smoking'advert. You know when he tapes the cigs onto the body of said rocket and launches it There was a shop on the Trafford Centre that used to sell them till the shop went pop!! Through lack of business - not the rockets going off I hasten to add!!

Yup - single use solid fuel rocket motors with an electric ignitor. Great whoooooshy fun. The bigger the motor the better the woosh. Unfortunately you need an explosives licence for the bigger stuff, which is such a pain I've never bothered.

Now Mark if you really wanted to play with big rockets ill lend you my MacGyver collection and you can make your own rocket fuel/explosives. Its mighty good fun(just dont burn your eyebrows off, or nearly set the neighbours dog on fire, then youll be in trouble)
