We are into the 60's and I have found that it is impossible not to bend the railings, even with careful handling. I have found that it is pointless to try and straighten them, they only get bent again. Rather leave them and only straighten them when you come to the painting stage. The more you try to straighten them, the weaker they will get with the possibility of the rails breaking off.
