and my name's Steve. I live in Sydney Australia. This is the first plank on frame ship model I've built. However I've been a plastic model builder for some time. I've built a 1/350 Tamiya Bismarck complete with Gold Medal Models Photo etched details, railings etc. It won ship model of the year in 2001 for the NSW chapter of the International Plastic Modellers Society. So naturally I'm a big fan of the Bismarck. I guess it goes back to when I used to watch the movie "Sink the Bismarck" on TV when I was a kid. So far I'm up to stage 5 and I'm finding it interesting. No doubt in the months ahead I'll be looking for a bit of advice now and then. I might also be able to make some suggestions of my own as there are definitely some areas where wood and plastic modelling crosses over. For instance I've already got many references on the Bismarck and have accurate enamel paint colours courtesy of White Ensign Models. I've also got some interesting rubberised rigging thread from E-Z Line, which I use on ships and aircraft models. It stretches to 7 times it's own length without putting on undue pressure. Very useful stuff. I hope to hear from the other modellers shortly. Thanks to the moderator for setting up this site. Steve

Hi Steve,
Welcome aboard. I hope you'll find the forum useful and entertaining. We have our very own Concert Party, supposedly led by Nemesis, but he's really more interested in the dancing girls, who are currently hiding in the Brig. Then of course, there is our poet lauriet, Napoleon, who was being nice for a short time, but we think it was just coz Josephine hit him iwht a frying pan. He's better now and back to his war mongering ways. There's a word game going on the the Officer's Mess, for when you get a bit bored. Just occasionally we actually talk about building the Bismarck. Confused ? You soon will be !!!

Hi Steve,
always glad to see another aussie come onboard. I'm up here in Brisbane. I've just finished issue 7 and waiting now for the next batch of 4. I'm interesting in your rubbery rigging. Can you post a link to the stuff? I've got a lot of 1/350 battleships looking very naked but have never found anything that suits.
thanks
Rod

Invasion plan. Knock on door. Wave tinnies, steaks and charcoal in a threatening manner. Get dragged in and get disarmed rapidly. Realise that the British weather is crap and go home (leaving any unused tinnies behind, we'll look after them PS. It doesn't work if you bring Fosters. That stuff is like making love in a rowing boat.......
