Hi Matt, there are quite serkious problems with the last few issues, not only rummaging through lots of back issues to find the part locations on the frets only to find that nowhere are they listed, but also going through my junk box to find the correct frets/plastic frames. A lot of guesswork is now taking place, with the hope that the parts have been correctly identified, but as some of the frames have had their parts moved around by Hachette so that the published plans do not even match, it is a nightmare. Now spending about an hour getting what I think are the correct bits, and another hour putting the microscopic parts together, with some damage occurring due to the brass bits being very small and fragile!! (and gluing my fingers!!) Unfortunately, the photos excellant though they are, often confuse me when trying to match the parts to the frames. e.g. is the shown plastic block actually 2mm long or 3mm long, they all look the same and as the part number printed does not appear anywhere else................................................. Also very frustrating going back of 60 issues for a brass fret with one of two bits on it. Am still worried that I have not installed a lot of parts earlier, as there still seems to be a lot of brass/plastic parts not accounted for. Me just ranting on (again) but it so silly that the build order was so poor, still to be adding parts to the hull some 100 issues after I had expected the hull to be complete is very frustrating, especially as I now have a room full of delicate top build parts and little room to swing around a 48 inch hull to do more work on it!! Oh well, at least aother 6 months work at the current rate of progress. (applying the old adage measure twice and cut once!!).

I HAVE SENT THIS E-MAIL AND GOT THIS REPLY THE NEXT DAY. I THOUGHT IT MAY BE HELPFUL TO SOME MEMBERS TO DO THE SAME. From: JOHN MC KIBBEN Sent: 25 November 2009 09:11 PM To: bismarck@jacklinservice.com Subject: MISSING PART IN ISSUE 138 I have purchase all the issues of Build the Bismarck over the last 3 years from my local newsagents and before that I also collected the Build the Titanic part work.I have always had great respect for the quality of the models and books supplied by your company and the extras like the web site on painting the Bismarck model. I was on your web site and their was a notice from your company about a part missing from issue 138 which said,We will send you a replacement issue which contains the missing item for you now. I called the number to be informed that I would have to buy another issue, I asked as it was a replacement for one I had paid for could I return the faulty one which was refused. The reason given was that I had not subscribed direct to the company for my issues. As your company has admitted that all issues were missing this part should they not take responsibility for this issue and take actions to rectify the situation I believe this is a complete disregard for your customers like myself and their investment of almost £700.00 for a complete model from your company. As the issue supplied was missing a part could you please supply the missing part or at least put up a diagram with the dimensions on your Paint the bismarck site so that we (who have not subscribed directly ) could make one to the correct size and shape. Yours, John Mc Kibben. Dear Mr Mc Kibben Reference: M2 11076 Thank you for your recent correspondence. Please accept my sincere apologies for the information you’ve been supplied with telephonically. I’ve requested that the missing part be issued to the address supplied below. The Paint the Bismarck website is not run by us as a company, so I would not be able to supply you with the information required. You can also visit the independent forum www.buildthebismarck.co.uk. Should you require any further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind Regards, Elzanne Gerber Customer Care Please remember to advise us of any changes to your postal address, telephone number or email address. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a direct debit subscription for the Bismarck. I phoned the hotline today about issue 138 and they said that a replacement is being supplied to me (I didn't ask if they are going to charge for it - silly me!!).
I now have all the issues but am only up to 124 in construction. I have booked an extra 2 weeks holiday leave this Xmas to try and get up to date, or at least up to about 135.
Many thanks Daniel for the info on 138 - have a K.

Mine was there, just a strip of wood. Easy enough to replicate if you have leftover hull planks.

Hi tiger, I also got my isues from my newsagent. About a year ago, one of the issues had a badly bent metal fret. I rang up Hachette, explained that I was getting my issues via a newsagent. They then sent me a complete replacement issue, mag and all at no cost and no hassle! Later, i was also sent the "real" deck planking without any problems, again at no cost! Looks as if your contact was having a bad day or trying to be a jobsworth!!!
