Hi All,
After having admired my recently completed Richelieu for a couple of weeks, my fingers are now getting itchy again, and I have started collecting information on the heavy cruiser, Prinz Eugen.
Since I have not yet started the build physically, it may seem a bit premature to start the build diary .... but I am doing it anyway ;D
The build will be in scale 1:200, so I admit it would have looked nice next to a model of Bismarck, but this is not to be
So far I have downloaded whatever I could find on the Web, spent $40 on a completely useless drawing , and bought the metal gun barrels with some help from Mark - thanks Mark
From a friendly modeller in US, I have received the hull lines (scanned from an SMB plan) of the frames, bow, and stern.
From these lines, I have now drawn up all the individual frames and made the drawings for the sandwich build of the bow and stern.
The frames still have to be adjusted for beveling (depending on the ply thickness - most likely 6mm ply) and the thickness of my planking.
So, I should be all set to start on the hardware just after New Year .... if I can wait that long
I have also purchased a very detailed cardmodel, in scale 1:250, from cmf Verlag in Munich.
My intention is to scan this cardmodel and convert it to 1:200, so I can use it as a guide to get good 3D impressions of all the details, and also to get ideas for the construction of parts. I did the same for my Richelieu and found it most helpful.
This build should keep me busy for the next two to three years
So, if everything goes well, the first real update should be sometime in January.
