what if your doing static model put blocks in? ty blocks? they are for the screws and i don't want to see the screw head on the deck. if i built a static model i would simply glue the deck... markus

Just about to finish the frames. All but frame 41 to go on the stern. However, when I attach this part before gluing, although it fits well on the keel, when the stretcher parts 49 are in place, it juts out (lbeit only about 1/2 to 1 milimetre). it seems that the stretchers are therefore too long, as all the other frames fit perfectly.
ANyone else had this? Will it be a problem?

I was chatting to a mate in the pub last night when somebody said they had overheard I was building an R/C boat and recomeneded that I vanish the hull sand it vanish it sand it and vanish it again, to make it water resiliant also that I should give in inside structure a vanish as it would fill and tiny gaps that water might seep in, question is was it the drink talking or should I do it?

He was talking about doing before the second planking is attached, and then again on the second lot of planking before painting it and using a clear coat on top of the paint...
ended up just as heavy as the real thing me thinks!

I'm with Markus on this. Don't varnish before the second planking - the glue will be stronger being glued onto bare wood. Glue does not take well to a varnished surface.
It's a very good idea, although I would use varnish on the inside and a sealer on the outside. Paint tkaes better to a sealer than varnish.

Sand / varnish / sand / varnish etc etc technique is that when you have applied the 1st coat after sanding you will then key the varnish to apply another smoother coat. The more times you do this the smoother the coat. But be carefull with the planks being so thin that you dont do too much sanding or you will have a sinkable model lol.
