Hi everyone, I've just started the build and put together the first 3 issues.
I had tremendous problems with the glue supplied with issue 1. It was like the glue they use on post it notes.
Has anyone else had a problem with it??
If so do you have any recommendations for a substitute??
Hachette suggested that I try the Deluxematerials.co.uk site but the choice is so bewildering to a complete novice like me. I need serious help on this!!

Hi alanthelionheart....you're not a scot in any way are you, by any chance?
One word of advice......Throw Away The Supplied Glue!!!!
It is rubb.....not very good.
Most of us in the UK are using evostic weatherproof glue, it comes in a blue bottle and does the job very nicely.
Not sure if you are UK based...... if not, you'll need to go to your local ironmonger shop and just ask for a good weatherproof wood glue.
Cheers Eric.

Hi Eric I'm born and bred English and even better, living on the Isle of Wight!!
Hachette suggested that I try an Aliphatic resin. It clearly needs to be strong, given the size and weight of the build

Alan,
I can recommend the aliphatic resin. I am using it for the hull planking, dries in a reasonable time and is very strong. I've used a plyurethane glue for the ribs and keel and I can tell you that stuff is incredibly strong.
All these glues are waterproof by the way so you can R/C it.
cheers

One word of advice......Throw Away The Supplied Glue!!!! That's five words (albeit good advice.) Aliphatic resin is good, as is the Evostick weather proof wood glue. If you're certain you're not going to sail your model then the standard Evostick wod adhesive (in a green bottle) takes a lot of beating. However, it's not waterproof so no good for a working model.

Thanks Mark. I've just got to sail this boat when it's completed so waterproof glue is a must

Deluxe Materials have recommended that I use their Aliphatic glue. Does anyone have experience of switching glues and whether it is a good thing to do. I am currently using the Evo Stick Weatherproof in the Blue container but have only got as far as the preliminary framework skeleton

I am currently using the Evo Stick Weatherproof in the Blue container but have only got as far as the preliminary framework skeleton I'd stick with the Evostik, please forgive the pun. It seems to be what most of your fellow builders on here have used. But, at the end of the day it is personal preference. Don't get stuck on the issue, oops , did it again! LOL robert
