Ok call me slow but in the instructions from the german magazine I have been looking at it shows the brass bits being stuck on the superstructure. So are you lot not going to do this and just store them? Also on the painting side of things, I have not begun to do my deck plankking yet and am not intending to glue down my superstructure pieces any time soon so I was thinking I can attach all these brass bits and just paint the superstructure as one? Are there parts of the brass that will need to be different colours, thus the need to paint them before glueing them to the superstructure? Sorry never done brass bits on models before so completely clueless.

Think it might depend on how your going to paint her. If doing the camouflage she had when leaving port, some of the brass could well have to painted different colours.

Do you mean the swastika on the deck or the camouflage on the superstructure? Also even if the red swastika symbol is a sticker it won't be an acurate paint scheme if I add the red swastika to the paint scheme I am aiming to do. EDIT: Although saying that I have found this site: www.kbismarck.com/drawings.htmlWhich shows my paint scheme with the red Swastikas Well confused now lol.

Hi afkmatrix, I did stick on the small bits for the first issue of the braas, but have stored the rest away for now, as I have been going flat out to do my main deck planking, some 150 hours worth so far (about 65% finished). Once all my decks have been planked, then I shall assemble the brass parts (but we still have at least 6 months to go receiving them, going by the Germans thread), but MUST paint them before sticking onto the wood frame, as there is no way I can let paint get anywhere near my planked decks. I have also decided to go for the basic paint colours to end up with my model looking like the shipyard model, hence all superstructure will be a light grey, in the main. I think that the model will look better that way, as if camouflaged and it does its job properly, the shape is all broken up and not so good looking!!! p.s. tips for deck planking, which is a long and tedious job: Do about 6 fixings per day. I do usually at least two and often three parts of the deck each fixing, eg one either side of the centre line counts as two parts. Make sure you deck is fully marked out in pencil with longitudinal lines about 10mm apart (to help keep the fixings straight), once dry cut each plank into its 30mm lengths BEFORE fixing the next adjacent plank! I also mark along the deck cross lines of 15mm apart (as each alternate plank has a different cutting point). I have used 300 mm lengths as these are easier to handle and not difficult to keep straight. IT IS MOST IMPORTANT THAT THE FIRST PLANK YOU FIT IS DEAD STRAIGHT. I allow about 15 mins for the glue to dry, before attempting the next plank, so in between, I come on this forum or find other distractions, else I would go planking punch drunk!!!! (not a pretty sight!!) I would also recommend doing one of the smaller decks first, as per my decking hints in my forum, as this will be done fairly quickly, give you an insight on how to do it, and when done will look good and make you feel that it all has been worth it!! (believe me!). Another advantage of doing a small version first is that if it should go wrong, its is easy to scrap it and start again.
Remember, patience is a virtue and you will get there in the end!!!

Thanks for those tips Swanrail, very handy, and yeah I was going to start on the smaller deck piece. I take it you have stuck down some of your superstructure then? As I think what I will do for the main deck is mark out where the superstructure will sit and then keep the superstructure parts seperate thus I can attach the brass parts, and still continue the main deck planking.

Hi Afkmatrix, the instructions call for the brass parts to be made up and then set aside, they are to be put on the superstructure at a later date.

No, I have not yet stuck down any superstructure as I too want to fit the brass bits first (and also need to give thought on how to remove the extended removable deck!!). What I did do, was to fit both the superstructures on the hull in what will be their final positions, so that I could mark out the correct postion of the margin planks, then removed them and glued down the margin planks as per my photos. Obviously this must be done prior to planking!!!
