Well, I recieved issues 60 and 61 today, and opened the packaging with some trepidation.......but am delighted to report that i am the proud owner of laser cut planking!!!
HOORAY!!!!
If I gently run my fingernail over the decking, it catches on the ridges of the cuts.
Looks really nice, but very thin and liable to snapping.....so extra care is needed!!!!

Eric Is that laser cutting on a single piece of board... If so, bugga Might be forced to do my own planking. Also here is the prompt reply from Hachette 9 May Dear Sir, We would like to thank you for your interest in our publication, Build the Bismarck. We can confirm that decking planks will be made available free of charge to all our consumers who wish to build their model using them. This is consistent with what was announced on our backing boards. However, the decking planks will not be inserted with one specific issue. To receive them you simply need to contact our Customers Services: By email: bissett@bissettmags.com.au subject: decking planks By post: Bissett Magazine Services Build the Bismarck PO Box 3460 Nunawading Vic 3131 By phone: (03) 98734988 We pride ourselves in delivering a great product for all modelers, expert and beginners. Beginners represent the vast majority of our customers. We therefore made the decision to give printed decking sheets with our series to ensure both an easy building process and a high-quality finish. The use of individual decking planks can produce a thin and slightly brittle decking making the building process particularly complex for most of our customers. We are confident that this approach is beneficial to all our customers and is in line with our communication about the series. We hope you will continue to enjoy building your model. Yours sincerely, Rebecca Van Nederynen Product Manager Hachette Partworks and 10 May Dear Barry, I'm glad that my email reached you with no problem and that the information about the laser cut planking is clear. It is no problem to receive the planks if you are not a subscriber. We will be sending the planks directly to customers who request them when issue 60 is on sale. Again, we hope that you continue to enjoy building your model. Best wishes, Rebecca Baz

Just had a thought, does that mean everytime some decking pieces are supplied will i then have to ring to ask for the correct laser cut pieces?

Eric Is that laser cutting on a single piece of board... If so, bugga Might be forced to do my own planking Yep, it is one sheet, with laser cutting to simulate the planking, an improvement on the printed decking, but not perhaps as good as real planking as done by Don and David.

It is one board but made up of a lamination of multiple planks.
Just to get my head around this, is the following true?
You get a printed laminated board if you are not a subscriber. You get a laser cut laminated board if you are a subscriber. You have the option of asking for individual laser cut planks.
Totally confused.
Bry.

If there is anybody out there who ISN'T confused, then he hasn't been paying attention!!!!!
I don't know anything about supplied individual planks, but I think you may have the first two parts correct Bry.
I think Don recieved the laser etched decking, but he very clearly requested it some time ago. (Don is, of course, going his own way on the decking)

Ok, more confused than ever now.
Looking closely at my decking through my mag glass am no longer sure it is laser etched.....although it definatley has ridging on it for the planks, I cannot be sure that all the detailing is cut in.
Markus, the decking you recieved, did it have ridging cut into the decking to simulate the individual planking, or was it all just printed ink?
