Hi Folks, Just found the answer to my question above. The rear part of the crane mechanism does indeed fold down. Found some photos of another model on a German site. see:- www.bismarck-class.dk/shipmodels/german_models/bismarckblohmvoss1.html It seems that if you build both cranes as per Hachette instructions then you will not be able to launch your aircraft! One crane should be constructed with the rear parts folded ( or both if you are wanting to show both aircraft with wings extended) This can be acheived by cutting the thin parts of the hydrulic rams, parts 1292 , i.e. the piston parts, so that the rams are as if they are unextended. Then glue part 1293 in the folded down position to sit on the shortened rams. part 1301 is then also folded down on top of part 1293. ( I had already built my cranes as per Hachette so some cutting & regluing was called for.) The rigging of the cables is then modified to suit ( see pages 320 & 321 of the assembly guide) The aircraft wing will now pass over the crane ..Q.E.D.! Hope this helps someone! I also think the launching cradles seem a little low i.e. the aircraft barely clear the caterpult hand rails and would hit the gun turret unless it is turned 90 deg to the hull. Wonder if anyone else had trouble with this? cheers John
