hi im planning on making my model RC but im not sure how to make it water tight. Eg paint it with water proof paint or paint something befor that? Also do you use normal household paint you buy from like resene and mitre ten and stuff?

Not sure about the paint, but if you use waterproof glue for the hull planking, (be extra careful doing it) it would help. Also people doing the r/c build are painting resin inside the hull, mainly near the motor area. Are you doing a 2 or 3 motor r/c setup?? Some people are using Life color paint. Afkmatrix is one of them.

The glue they supply is standard white glue and is NOT waterproof. Resin you paint on then it goes hard. Should be available in hardware stores in the Shaky Isles. Btw I'm from West Island - lol

I'm an Aussie, but been to NZ. Non waterproof glue is ok inside the hull. I'm doing mine almost entirely with standard white glue and some super glue for the brass parts. Thinking of using waterproof glue for the 2nd layer of planking though, if I can find some. If not I will just rely on the paint keeping the water out, btw standard white glue dissolves in water even after it has dried. very useful if you make a mistake or want to change things round. My build has been modified. See my build diary.

Trying to think back. There is a bit about it on the forum, see Swanrail's Modifications and Tips section and maybe afkmatrix's build diary. Oh and have a look at the thread Bow Planking for what to avoid. - lol My first attempt at planking the hull failed, I had to pull it off and start again. ;D Joining the decks into 1 complete deck isn't too bad, unless your like me and have the decking in place when you decide to it.
