Hello. I just want to clarify something. Do most modellers glue additional hull planking around the top part of the hull instead of the ply port holes and then drill holes in the planking using a template from around issue 52 then glue in small pieces of brass tubing to simulate the port holes?

I think there is probably quite a split on this,I for one used the supplied ply parts without problem, but am still undecided about the portholes. The problem I have is, looking at close-up photos of the real Bismarck, there seem to be no surrounds round the portholes, just the glass set slightly in, and the curved lips over the top....the much talked about 'eyebrows'

Thats what I'm doing Steve Took one look at ply parts supplied from previews and decided to go my own way. Now I have the ply parts, I've condemned them to the firewood bin. Mind you, a lot of our colleagues in the forum seem to have handled the ply parts really well. Take a look at some of the build dairies. Its really a matter of horses for courses and which way you feel comfortable attacking that little sucker of an area Baz

I don't know about most, but that's certainly what I'm going to do

Steve I did not fit the ply portholes. I decided to follow what Markus had done and double planked the hull all the way to the top and fit the deck inside. Hope that helps

im painting behind the portholes first with black paint, then putting micro thin layer of plastic over paint , then finally putting on the porthole part. plastic gives impression of real glass on portholes. hopes this helps.john
