Any guys who followed the thread "Card model warships available from me" in the BRIG/OTHER MODELS section buildthebismark.proboards52.com/index.cgi?board=models&action=display&thread=1204983419 will know about my association with the COURBET. I have ordered the kit from Nemesis and although this will be my first card model, I will post pics of the kit when it arrives and my build as it progresses. Any card model experts out there who can offer helpful advice, please feel free to post.

Show it to your Dad when it looks substantial, and give it to him after you've done the detailed work.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on with it, Mike.
Don't forget to scan it into your puter b4 starting so that if you make a balls up of anything, you can just print off another copy.

Been away visiting my son in Johannesburg: just got back. Nothing arrived yet but this is normal. Airmail means nothing to the SA post office. If it looks like a parcel, it's treated like a parcel. My monthly subscription takes 3-4 weeks to come from Johannesburg, 1200 km away! Also, if it goes via customs for any duty payable, this will increase the delay. I will only worry after the 15th. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Hi Steve and NM, Guess what arrived in the post today? Here is a scan of the cover and a preview of the instructions and card parts. My wife is ecstatic! She can't find where I've hidden the kitchen knives ;D

At last! It's arrived. Just under a month for airmail is criminal. Better late than never, though, eh? Gluck with it, matey and happy building

That looks like it will keep you out of trouble ('cept with the wife) for a little while. Good luck - look forward to seeing some photos.

Looks interesting Mike.
I use a Polish cardmodel book of Richelieu to give me a better idea of size and shape of details for my build. But after a while I found that it drove me nuts to find items (numbered on the instruction sheets) I was looking for.
So I ended up making a list in numerical order and went through all sheets one by one to catalogue all numbers with a reference of where to find them.
This list has proven to be very useful and time saving.
I don't know the Courbet cardmodel, but you may find it helpful to do the same.

I feel your pain, guys. I have to look at the parts often when translating the instructions and it can take forever to locate a particular part, especially on the larger kits.

I decided that as far as possible, I would use scanned copies for the construction and keep the originals. Here are some of the hull frame outlines mounted on card prior to cutting out. Due to the method of construction of the hull elements, I decided that it was unnecessary to fix a longitudinal wooden stringer to the keel section to keep it straight down its length.
