Here is a really easy way to make a model look loads better. I'm using a Gudman robot model as a demonstrator, but the effect should be the same on the Bismark or other models. You can get paint marker pens for Gundam models. They are like ordinary marker pens, but contain paint instead of ink. Mostly they are wide markers for doing block colours. I've never used those as I reckon it will be difficult to get a good finish (mind, it can't be any worse than my hand fisted efforts with a brush !!) However, they do some very fine markers for filling in panel lines. These are great, not only for filling in panel lines, but also for providing a bit of contrast/shadow at the edge of details, in corners, etc. Here is a before and after shot of a Gundam gun. The only difference is the addition of highlights as described about. I used black on the grey parts, and grey on the white parts. It took about 5 minutes to do this !! BeforeAfterI plan to use the same technique to bring out the cable runs on the Bismarck, and probably also the creat a bit of shadow round the doors & windows, etc.
