Thinking of having a standard dvd burner and a blue ray 1 as well. Thinking maybe this one, www.directron.com/bc1205pt.html $159.99 should be able to get it for less than that. p.s. Whats the Commander of the fleet rank, I keep seeing ?a blu-ray burner can burn normal DVD's too, so there's no need for a seperate one, unless you really want two burners

First tip you should up the ram to 4 gig. 2nd tip, I have 2 nvidia video cards linked using sli, plays crysis with no slow down in frame rate.
As for operating system, I use vista ultimate 64 bit and I've never had to reinstall it, I could never say that about XP. I had to reinstall that about every 6 months. If your going to do office/web design I would not go for the 32 bit vista if I were you, 64 bit version has better features and is more stable. You will also be able to run more memory with the 64 bit version, up to 128 gig.
As for windows 7, nobody really knows when it will be released, maybe November 2009 is the latest. Also I'm not sure if any one else knows this, but Steve Ballmer CEO of Microsoft has said that Windows 7 will be an improved version of Vista. They are actually taking features out of windows 7, i.e. windows mail (and a few others but I havn't got the list at hand at the moment). So to get the 'other' features that were originally planned you will have to go out and buy the Windows Live Essentials disc as well.

Windows 7 is due out in 2010 btw, I use Mozilla's Seamonkey, (what used to be netscape) for email and some browsing, (use firefox for the rest) and IE only and only when the other 2 fail. Don't know what you lot have been doing, but I've had xp pro installed since 27/02/2006. I have SP3 and all updated. I have office 97 and open office.org installed on here. Did have Corel word perfect but ran into a few problems with it and anyway open office loads in most of the files corel uses. Longest running time for my pc is just short of 36 hours.

Be careful when putting in the power pack, those guys are heavy and will kill your motherboard if dropped. Some new cases now have the power pack at the bottom just because of this.
As a side note, I'm begining to change my mind about the beta version of windows 7, it's going to hammer XP and vista into the ground. We've been using it more and more at work. I just hope microsoft don't drop anymore 'odds and ends' from the final release. I'll still keep vista running for at least a year after 7 is released, just to give 7 time to settle into the market.
For you guys that upgrade from vista to 7, you will like the little changes that microsoft have put in, mostly visual. But the guys that upgrade from xp to 7 will be amazed at how 'new' that 7 feels. It will be like going from DOS to win98, which I still think is the best and most stable operating system (win98) ever released by microsoft. We still use win98/pentium 4 systems for back up at work, they never die.
