Ho! Ho! Ho! Hope you just all had a great, great Xmas, my dear ol’ friends! And that Santa made your dreams come true, just as he did to me. Can't argue he didn't fulfill mine this year. What a Boxing Day, boys and... what a box (!): THE last released 1:35 scale Amati’s Shnellboot with a 10- crew resin set on top of it. Couldn’t really ask for more! Have to admit that once opened, I faced myself before a quite promising and impressive smoking hot hull. Holly Moses! The inside grant us with over 600 parts, alongside a photo-etched sheet, a pre-cut acetate sheet (for windshield frames), the usual decals, thin and thick ropes, a set of screws with bolts and even a nice little screwdriver to go with. [/img] The party crew, from left to right: Crew of 4 (3.7cm Flack), Crew of 3 (Command bridge), Crew of 3 (2cm Flackzwilling) Now, Bissie, Schnellboot... er, um, I'll need to learn to pick my battles! Which one will I sink first?! ;D Robert

check your kit carefully. I've 2 of these beasts and both hulls suffered damage due to Italeri's very poor box and internal packaging. check the area of the torpedo tubes on both the hulls as the upper rims had been broken in mine as the hulls can move around in the box as well as the rest of the sprues etc.
I found the broken off bits in the box and have been able to repair the damage, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
It is a very good kit, as you will find out but suffers from italeri's very poor packaging attempt.
BTW.... where did the crew come from?

Robert in France, did you get your (Chinese?) Italian model from Germany?
It seems to have the swastika-free flags.

BTW.... where did the crew come from? James Thanks for the advice James. I checked the hull with my four eyes and it seems to be all fine, except for a tiny missing bit of plastic on the upper edge that took away with it a couple of embossed bolts... aarrgghh! You're quite right about Italeri's poor packaging. For the price, I can only but recommend asking the box to be opened before carried away... The crew comes from a French company. The shop owner had created about 15 years ago or so a RC version of this model, with its own made resin crew that he had in stock still. And NM, See, sold my plane ticket to Stockholm and traded it for that little big monster. No, kidding: actually, I took my missus to London last week and offered her a Xmas pudding there. A hell of a bargain, don't you think? To answer your questions, she bought it at the above address and to what concerns the swastika (if my memory doesn't defect me), it is forbidden in Europe to have it reproduced. But I noticed lately, this seems not to bother Chinese nor Americans as they sell flags in full details -- until maybe European Customs Depts. find the matter and decide a ban on the imports some day. Good luck with your builds boys. Cheers, Robert

It possibly could Anthony, but then I'll have to ask Markus to come over, pay him a round ticket to Paris, have him as a guest, without forgetting he needs to be fed (and I'm sure our friend eats at least three times a day!). All this for at least two to three weeks, plus the extra going outs for testing local beers... Devastating for my budget! ;D ;D ;D

It could be cheaper to send the hull to marcus on a round trip rather than marcus on a round trip as the hull doesn't need to be collected and delivered to various airports and doesn't need to be fed and watered along with several dozen ale tastings added in. The hull gets a door to door service!

it will DEFINETLY be much cheaper ;D Robert: if you have the hachette drive set i could incorporate a drive with the same motor connectors as the hachette drive, so you could use transmitter, battery, receiver and esc for both ships.... markus

If there's one sure thing on earth I will do when I decide to motorize a model Markus, is that I will address myself to you and nobody else but you! (Even if the hull were coming into 10 sections. By the way, nice shots of your Boot, James). But I also have to confess I commute with our transport system in town and cannot imagine myself just a minute I could carry under my arm a 1- meter long boat to get to the ponds of Vincennes or Boulogne parks... Well, at least at the moment. Aber viele danke für deine Hilfe vorschlagen, Markus. Now, the assembling starts with the 4 cross braces that clutch 2 metallic nuts each (A). I placed at first these last ones in one of a cross braces halves... (By the way, we found these stacking travel pots at Boots when in London. Very handy for storing small parts -- and cost £2.10) Then (B) brought each cross brace halves together using Tamiya cement and clamps to keep them firmly maintained. One never gets cautious enough!

The four cross braces are now screwed along the length of the hull on both sides, holding the two hull halves together. Yeaah! They have to be well of plumb vertically, as the threads on top receive afterward the longest screws that will keep a tight hold of the coming two- part deck. Next, I attacked the lower part, blunting the five 2.3 x 4.5mm screw points as a safety against any unwilling "Oops, noooo... gone thru the hull!" coming out of my mouth. And screwed them into place. Mission accomplished... so far, so good!
