It seems popular by a lot of members to start a second build to take the mind of the primary build when the fun starts to become chores. So I have bought myself a kit from Billing Boats; The Oseberg viking ship. Looks quite nice, lasercut and easy instructions with lots of pics. Length: 86cm So now I'm ready if I happen to get stuck with my Richelieu some day. There is even a Mini Oseberg included

I heard long time ago, Vikings discovered the North American continent long before Columbus. Now, don't tell me they went as far as Australia, now!! Nice wreck you've got there Poul. You'll make it as brand new in a flash. Robert

Wasn't it the Irish who discovered America? Now I'll have to check the dates of Brendan the Navigator and Erik the Viking.

......better consult some better history books, because all those explorers you've already mentioned met who in the Americas and where did they come from, not a chicken or egg question either

Hi all, So, it has started - the keel has finally been laid while I'll take one month off from my Richelieu build to try and finish this one ... but beware not many instructions in BILLINGS BOAT kits ... I cannot disagree with Shane about not many instructions available in the kit. Hardly any, which is a bit disappointing. But what's even worse: 1) They refer to laser cut parts by numbers, with some of them not shown or explained anywhere, so it's up to you to guess 2) Some measurements are implied (or rather left in the air) so again it's easy to guess wrong 3) Worst of all, some measurements are plainly incorrect Never the less, I got through the keel with only two mistakes, and from now on everything will be triple checked before anything is cut or fitted. Thank God, I now have some experience from scratchbuilding to help me with this one.

If it's too easy, it wouldn't be much fun, would it

This is where you find out that scratch building is easier than building a kit with poor instructions !!

This is where you find out that scratch building is easier than building a kit with poor instructions !! The thought has actually already occurred to me Now for today's progress All frames in place and ready for planking which will start tomorrow as the glue has to dry properly overnight. A question though: This ship has to be stained - not painted. I know that white glue, if not removed, will affect the ability for the timber to absorb the stain, so what do you do if you you have missed some glue Would a light sanding take care of the problem
