Hello!
I think this pict has been taken before the launch and the armoured belt was not yet installed.
You cas see too that the propellers are not in place.

Bruno is correct klubenin, the armoured belt was not fitted until after she was launched.
It was very important to keep the hull weight down to minimum for launch....the extra several thousand tons would have made her so heavy they would never have been able to slow her down before hitting the far bank!
All such battleships were launched without armour, a normal procedure all navies used.

Page 13 in Bismarck history and destiny (accompanying mag.) shows Bismarck bow on at launch. You can clearly see armour belt not fitted. Page 46/47 shows armour belt being fitted after launch.
