Decided to start my Hood kit today, it's by Trumpeter but I also bought some extra bits. Brass 15inch Guns and 4 inch guns WEM moulded turrets WEM brass etched set WEM moulded Pompoms. The kit is very good, the level of detail is way above Tamiya kits in the same scale. This kit is the only one with the seal of approval of the Hood Association, apparently.

I thought about RC conversion for her Markus, but if I put on all the very delicate brass ralis she will be too fragile to take the abuse from messing with the RC set, so sadly she'll be static.
So far I've put on the main decks and almost immediatly diverted from the instructions which called for the lower hull to be glued on last after everthing else is finished.
Madness, you need tape and 'lacky bands wrapped round the hull to be sure it all stays in place. So superstucure, guns and masts would be a bit of a hinderance!
So lower hull is already attached before anything else. Hope my desision dosn't end up bitting me in the bum!

Size is: 750 x 60 mm (After looking in various places, I see it's on the front of Eric's box!) Want some 1:350 crew? Look at www.moduni.de/product_info.php/products_id/3917501(German crew, but you can change the cap-badges!) A reviewer gave them 4 out of 5 stars, here's the Yahoo translation: "The navy figures are on a 1:350 ship a mad eyecatcher. However it is very toilsome to attach these on the deck since you are understandably very small and in addition also still flat. Otherwise definitely a refinement of the overall view." Which I think further translates as: "They look cool, tedious to fit, two- rather than three-dimensional. But they do add something neat to the general effect." More 1:350 crew: these Tamiya figures seem to be plastic rather than photo-etched. Three-dimensional? But out of stock at Moduni. www.moduni.de/product_info.php/products_id/8012622nm

Hood is quite easy to paint, she had just been painted dark north atlantic grey in May. NM got the dimantions right, a big kit, much longer than Prince of Wales or even my Tirpitz. Here are some build pics, the brass work you can see along the hull is the photo etched Degausing gear, I had to trim off the moulded cables from the hull before putting on the WEM ones. The instructions for this called for me to sandwich TWO layers of brass together before putting it on the hull. Looks good, better than I'd hoped.

I've got a bit of progress on the Hood, slow just now because of work. The middle deck is painted and boat deck glued on top of it, and I've been cutting of plastic mouldings and replacing them with brass parts. The brass really is tiny and very thin, much worse than the Bismarck stuff! Main bridge starting to take shape.

Some more progress. First pics are of yet more brass on the hull (over 150 parts so far!) The stairways were a real pain, but looked much better than the plastic ones supplied, so worth doing. Hull painted. I am doing the superstructure in sections, each deck will be glued and painted one at a time, otherwise I'll never be able to get the brush in to paint it. Still got to touch up the paintwork around the small detail parts.

Hi Eric, I've also got the Trumpeter HMS Hood but only got the minor pack of brass bits. Looking at what you have done so far on your's, wish I had also gone for the additional pack. As you said at the start, it is one of Trumpeter's better detailed kits. I look forward to seeing the finished model.

If you have, I'd love to see some pics!

Those ladders look like fiddly. I designed something similar for the etched set I had made for the Titanic - tricky little blighters, both to get right and also to fold and fit.
She is looking really good Eric.
