Can anyone give a definitive anti-fouling paint colour for the ships boats? Amati say black, Fine Art Models say red and they state they built the model using Blohm&Voss original plans. Looking at the original Blohm&Voss model the boats look red but it is hard to be certain due to bad lighting.

They do actually look red to me too in these photos, if you're talking about the waterline on the lifeboats?
If so they could be one of the modifictions mentioned in the text, 'the model show how the Bismarck was planned to look like and some of the modifications to the real ship is not to be seen on the model.'....maybe they were designed to be red but actually built black?

Heres a strange thing also, this is the original shipbuilders model, the aft range finder /radar(clearly visible) is facing forward, wrong direction.and the two optical rangefinders are domed. and notice the colour of the Arado plane.

Remember it was finished after the war though, according to the backgorund information........but yeah I see what you mean, colours are different and positioning. The seats within the lifeboats are a different colour too

The HMV 1:250 card model of the Bismarck prints those boats' bottoms as a very dark grey. (And they are a Hamburg publisher - that's the "H")

Tirpitz is not a Blohm & Voss product:
"The building contract was placed on 14 June 1936 with the Kriegsmarine Werft, Wilhelmshaven, as New Construction "G" later named Tirpitz."

Peter Beisheim fine model has his boats with a black antifouling. AS said, the original shipyard model seems to have a tinge of red, but hard to see. Peters model is much clearer. So like all the paintwork, its up to you!!!
