I'm kinda looking ahead a bit as week 82. You've got the curved gratings that go on the deck, but after that I can't find anything else to go on the deck. Does that mean that there is going to be a step between the deck and the gratings ?
Is this right, or is that another challenge to overcome ??

Um, do you mean around the funnel and hangers, Mark?
As far as I can see, there is no decking to be supplied and you just paint the wood as is.
I have been looking at this too, and wondering if some thin ply shaped and fitted might be an option.

This is a question I also asked recently, with no reply. On Markus' model you can see he has painted the area dark grey but its not possible to see if anything has been fitted there. It would seem weird to have a step up there just for the grating. If someone on issue 137 could perhaps post a nice close up that would be useful. Are there any german forums with build diaries of people in the 130's ?

I looked thorugh the previews and also the OEHM site, but couldn't see anything that looks as if it goes there.
I'm thinking either chisel out the deck to recess the gratings or add a sheet of ply, or maybe plastic card ?

This is a picture from a guy called Rudi on one of the german forums. You can see there is nothing there. I suspected as much when they asked us to place the rear hatches directly onto the deck. It may be one of those things that only we as the model builder will notice but no one else will.. I think I might leave mine the way it is, I don't feel like prising off the already glued down hatches and risk breaking them.. Rod

indeed, there's a little step there... but it's hardly noticeable as wood and brass have the same color markus

Would it not be feasible if you have some spare decking such as the pieces that go on the hull itself, to cut it to shape? I have such a spare piece from when I got a spare issue from Germany. I feel some tinkering time coming up. Just to see how it would look.

I looked at a card model of the Bismarck, which shows a grey deck, so I don't think that it is meant to be planked. However, I think that the gratings should actually be butted onto the edge of the deck, not mounted on top.....

After some cogitation, I've ordered some 15 thou (0.37mm) plasticard and am going to cover the deck with this, then recess the gratings into it. This will give me a nice smooth surface as well as hiding the step. I shall also fill in the holes in the gratings that shouldn't be over the deck.
I haven't decided whether hangers will be stuck on top or recessed. I'll see how they fit.
Wish me luck !!
