If your interested in doing it, put your ideas for a model to build here. I'm thinking the Cutty Sark for a period ship, (or would that be too hard for people), maybe someone could suggest an easier period ship. As for a modern ship, maybe a tugboat of some sort, (ok I have a big interest in them). ;D Anyway people, your ideas.

Ironclad or WW 1 sounds good, there were some interesting ships around then.

Modern: what about one of those pretty car carriers?!
A few planks and you're halfway there.

WWI Deadnought battleship or battlecruiser...........Deadnought herself , or Battlecruiser HMS Tiger.

Im up for period myself, love looking at those old ships. But any ship for me, i will leave that up to the experts due to how difficult / easy it could be to build.

I still have the Deag Spitfire to build yet - that can be modified to the 'n'th' degree to be honest. Scratch build the cockpit etc.

My personal thought is, that a group - or community - (scratch?) build could be one idea to keep our close "Bismarck Community" together and make this forum move forward. At least a good chunk of it.
We, as a group, do have the combined persistence and innovative skills for such a project, plus we are a group large enough to take on such a challenge.
Too early at the moment to make any decisions though, but this thread is a good measure to gauge the mood for the idea.
If the general mood is positive, I would suggest someone (Achtung?) to set up a poll later in the year, first to decide the feasibility (how many), and second to try to find a ship that could catch general interest.
For me personally: A build in scale 1:200 - it would attract my attention A WWII ship like the Hood or Prinz Eugen - I may join in.
A word of caution though. Unless you decide on a kit (which would leave me out), such a build doesn't create itself, and the lead time - from deciding on a certain build to the actual start with hands-on - will most likely be 3-6 months due to necessary research. Remember that the more you know about the ship, the better model you can produce. And whoever the driver will be, will have to: 1) Put in some hard yakka to find a suitable set of plans, available photographs, etc. etc. 2) Do the ongoing planning of the build - maybe also make detailed construction drawings for the group (superstructure, turrets, etc.) 3) Liase with Mark for suitable forum lay-out changes This is not a small task at all.

Hi Poulw - I would be happy to set up another poll, if thats ok with everyone, later this year maybe October when the scheduled run of UK Bismarck is due to end to gauge the view of doing a scratch build.

That timing sounds good.
I don't know whether I would participate in the actual build myself. Time being the main problem. However, it goes without saying that I'll set up and manage a section of the forum however the build group wants it done.
Sounds like it could be a great project.
