It's a beautiful looking model but for me, there just seems to something bugging me about it and I can't put my finger on it.

I wonder if the guy carved/moulded the parts himself? If so, he created a magnificent model, but if this is a partworks job it might as well be a Bisam.."rck" (wreck). I'm sure we'll win the competition with our Bissy.

I am all for using swastika's on a scale model, it really finishes a good model, but I don't get why people whould stand all the trouble ( people who want to be politically correct, even when they're just a bunch of whining SOB's, that claim they are personally hurt by seeing some stupid symbol) of having a swastika on a model that doesn't even look like the vehicle it's supposed to look like...

Depends which way you look at this. Yes if you want your model to be totally accurate then by all means get a swastika to suit (not hard to make) and attach it to your model. However, and im not exgarating here, I have got quite friendly with the newsagent staff over my Bissy model and how its progressing and I said, at the beginning of the build. that there was a possibility that a swastika could be included as part of the build and would there be any problems with that.
As you know in the UK we have certain press newspapers that would jump on something like this. Just down the road there is a large Jewish community and I can just imagaine our newspapers and the headlines 'nazi boat for sales in local shop!' I kid you not and sorry for the bluntness.
But that is the world we live in. I know for a fact I wont be sailing my boat inthe local pond with a swastika on it as it probably wont float very well with a brick sized hole in it! Or the local Police will be feeling my collar!

Danny, I'm solid behind you. My Bissy will have ALL that's needed to look like the real ship. I understand Achtung's fears, but I'm celebrating the engineering capability of the people from that era and NOT the Nazi ideologies.

........is this political correctness gone too far , what about historical accuracy. There was this History teacher years ago out in Alberta teaching that the holocaust never happened...I believe he got sacked, not getting on a soapbox here, but if we are building a replica of a piece of history are we not allowed to portray it in an accurate manner. I can understand the dilemma of Markus in Germany, but is this not why our fathers, uncles and grandfathers fought the WW2 in the first place. Ideology, hmmm ;D

Although I can understand the deep seated feelings invoked by a swasticka, I am probably lucky to live in Australia where the horror of the nazi movement isn't always present in the minds of the general population. There are certainly many still alive for whom it was very real, but I think Australians are generally an easy going bunch and have a lot more tolerance that most cultures. For that reason, I'm not worried about placing the swasticka on my boat for historical accuracy. I would put forward the point, that just by having a symbol painted on a model does not in any shape way or form mean the builder supports the organisation that the symbol represents, but merely accurately depicts the subject as it was at that time. The thought of someone becoming inflamed or even violent at seeing something like a swasticka on a model ship is abhorrent to me.

I will be putting the swastika on my boat. When I was in Germany it was not talked about, but here [NZ] its no problem. That was the sign in that period of which will reflect my paint works.

For me, the swastika is in, NO strings attach. Otherwise I must start thinking about calling my Bissy another name that's not attach to the Germany of then and theeeen, I must start to change the whole bloody look and theeeen,...... OH COME ON where will it end?
