This is a semi kit from Sirmar and worth every penny.I've also used some brass etch stuff from Cammett and again it is of the highest quality. Before i start please excuse the mess,i didnt have much room to play in! The real one I started with the fibreglass hull first. It comes already marked with the positions for the bilge keels, rudders and shaft outlets so i concentrated on cutting two holes at the bow and made two anchor pockets Next up were the shaft outlets,a frames and rudders.A lot of cutting and filling. I fitted the deck next with 2mil ply. The deck is fitted slightly higher than the edge of the hull and has a small gap all the way round. This gap was filled with Plasto and sanded down to form a bead.Using the Jecobin plans i then marked the deck for the fitting of the bollards and fairleads. Tried an experiment using wet and dry to give an epigrip effect and it didnt work.Took some getting off! Thats the hull finished but i had to re do the boot topping after it bled under the crap masking tape i used. That'll do me for tonight,i'll try and put the superstructure work up tomorrow.

Looks like a nice model. It's going to be a good project to watch - a cross between a kit and a scratch build. Nice props as well

Nice one.
The chopper landing area looks a bit small? If the tail rotor go the chopper go and maybe part of the ship.

Well done, excellent model Brings back happy memories of walking the aft deck eating bacon sarnies in the cool dawn breeze after the middle watch in a hot engine room. Have a well deserved K (as much for the memory as for the work)

Wish I could do my Schnellie in just 18 shots and get the same nice result.
She looks just great, congrats!

Thanks for the replies gents(and the karma . She was a broad beam leander, one of the last ones built and one of only four that ended her career with the original weaponry except for the gambo 20mm on the back end which was added after a hard learned lesson during the Falklands war. She was also one of four to keep the Wasp helicopter as the mortar well made the flight deck too small for a Lynx. Coenie, when i was doing the flight deck i thought i'd got my measurements wrong as you are right it doesnt fit and i almost binned the helicopter until i remembered the guard rails around the mortar well were dropped while the wasp(electronic budgie)was in operation. Ships nickname-The Dirty Dozen.
