Hey Mike glad I could help. That's one really really good wife you have there. Perhaps if she reads this now she should know that the only way you could show your gratitude for such a gift would be doing the washing, ironing, house cleaning and cooking for at least a month... or am I the only one that has that done for him anymore. But seriously, I hope the build goes well. I have my eye on the u boat and the after market internal components. Thinking of doing a cut away version. I look forward to your build diary. cheers Rod

Just finished the main deck gun. That's all the guns done now. Just a bit more detail to the conning tower and some filling and she'll be all done. Ready to slip right into that case I still have to build. Funny enough I have been playing Silent Hunter 4 and realised what a great image source it was. I can climb all over a gato class sub. Its funny watching the guns in live action on that subsim. cheers Rod

Hi Rod, Are your crew figures pre painted, or are you a master of the paint brush! mike

Hi Mike, I wish I was a master of the paintbrush... No they come as unpainted little figures. In fact here are the unpainted crew for the main deck gun. I'm partway through doing the conning tower guys. I've actually lost one of the little arms to the guys as it flung off out of my tweezers into the nether regions. Who hasn't had that happen before.. I might have to have a one armed bandit on my sub...maybe manning the gun he had his arm blown off by an aircraft attack.. hmmm I need lots of red.. got me thinking.. Hardest part is trying to capture detail on the face. At this scale you can almost paint their little eyes on, which I plan to have a go at this weekend. There are some truly skilled painters out there at this sort of thing - that is not I... Rod

Really great job all around Rod
Great skin colour too for the figures
My attempts in the past at 1/12th scale race drivers have been woeful, so I keep well away from them now.

USS Cobia ready for sea trials Sir!!. A very enjoyable build this one. Nothing like a good plastic kit to get some easy modeling satisfaction from. I can see some more Bismarck issues have arrived so I guess thats the sign I must return.. Anyway here are some photo's. In summary - excellent kit from Revell! And of course what ship can sail without its crew.. The gun crew just doing a drill. One of them a little sleepy still.. Close up shots give me a few areas I still need to touch up. I want to try painting eyes on these faces, but have to build up the patience and the steady hand to do it. cheers Rod

Brilliant job Rod, I agree that a plasict kit can bring masses of satisfaction in building, with a great looking model at the end of it!
