Although I purchased a full set of JR Haynes railings, I am now leaning towards fitting the railings supplied by Hachette.
After looking at the Hachette supplied railings again, I found it was easy to thread the excellent "nylon" rope supplied.
The railings also have plenty of depth on the legs for mounting purposes and I like the fact that they supply some railings with stanchion back braces to make them look more realistic, something that you do not get on the photo-etched after market railings. The railings can be airbrushed on their frets and the rope can remain it's natural colour.
Finally, I think that the "nylon" rope will make the railings look more natural.

Interesting idea Mike. In the end its whatever you think will make your model look right in your eyes.
I'm sticking with the haynes set because it matches the rest of the model. All the above deck railings are rigid photo etch. That and the fact I dont want to drill all those holes..
I'll be intersted to see how yours turns out.
