One of my other models I am building is the Flying Scottsman train model from Hatchette.
As relative error free the Bismarck is in terms of problems, I am sorry to say that Hatchette realy messed up the building of the Flying Scottsman...
Therefore, for those of you that bought the parts and did not start yet, please read through ALL the manuals first. It will save you a lot of unnecessary time and frustration.
To name a few. The order of construction is at times totally wrong, that cause you to take off certain already fixed parts, to do something else first. This can make you tear your hair out of your head.
There is certain parts that they replace with other parts, that you should rather use.
Some parts is missing, etc., etc.
On the more positive side. If you can stick with all the problems, and overcome it somehow, then the Flying Scotssman will be worth it at the end of the day. It is a beautifull model though.
Overall I think it is easier to build than the Bismarck for example, but at times it might prove to be very demanding to get certain things straighten out.
One last thing. If you want to run your model, in stead of a static model, then do not use superglue (my favorite) at certain points, especially the wheels, because over time the shaking/friction will break the superglue bonds and then your train will land on its roof alongside the track.
Enjoy.

Have to agree the build could be a lot better, I'm waiting for issue 99 and the replacement chassis before I do any more with mine. As to it running, I have no idea right now.

Hi pieterhb. I agree there are a lot of faults on the scotsman build, what issue are you on in SA. Im on issue 123 here in the UK so only 2 to go. I found the main fault is on the tender, there are two white metal side supports that fit inside the plastic tender body. One will need cutting or the brass coal shute will not fit, Looking from the front of the tender, its the one on the right You will notice that its stepped, from the lowest part of the step, it needs cutting at at an angle to the highest step roughly 6mm to nothing. I may post so pics of my scotsman soon
mike an angle to the first step

Great, now I find out, after gluing them both in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't think they are all that well glued in though, thinking I might add the brass coal shute to the white metal parts, then glue the whole thing to the plastic sides.

Don't worry to much Sky, I glued the white metal parts in the tender before I found the prob, had to cut the part with slitting disc and make sure I did'nt cut through the tender side

Russ I totaly agree with you , I prefer the BR brunswick green. I know that three A3's were right hand drive that went into BR owner ship, they were not converted to left hand drive till well into the fifty's mike

The Flying Scotsman may have problems to get it right but the result is absolutely fabulous, Mike. That the kind of partwork I'd love to build along with Hachette's King Tiger tank, but unfortunately, both aren’t distributed in France… Thanks for watering my mouth, mate. That’s worth a ‘K’ to me!
