A wet summers day (90%+ humidity!!) in Auckland, much to hot and sticky to do chores, so while waiting for bits of bissie to dry I'd thought I'd take a few pics of some of my models and throw in some pics from my achives and share with you lovely lot ;D
1/144th scale F-14A tomcat, the kits by Dragon and included the deck and crew, I remember many words were said while cutting the slats and flaps free from the wings so they could be fitted in the lowered position (who's clever idea was that?!).
Airfix ship in a bottle kit (The friend I made this for supplied the bottle & most generously emptied it for me, as I'm not much of a whiskey fan):
Lockheed P3K Orion from No 3 Sq RNZAF (Hasegawa kit):
Bell Sioux, these are soon to replaced by Augusta 109's after 40+ years service as trainers with the RNZAF:
Spider crab (DH Vampire), the full size one is still around, safely in the hands of MOTAT (Museum of Technology and Transport):
Aermachhi MB339 CB (Still sitting in storage waiting to be sold after the jet fleet was grounded in 1991,deemed unneeded by the government):
Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk, this is one of the aircraft that my late Grandpa worked on when he was with No 4 servicing unit in Guadacanal during WWII, there were several 'Glorias' that belonged to No4 SU as Gloria was a young TB patient that was adopted as the squadrons mascot. Grandpa recalled that this particular 'Gloria' had a engine failure on approach for landing resulting in a most spectacular backside over kite somersault over a bank, the pilot walked away unhurt but NZ3148 was a write off.
Dauntless SBD-5 NZ5057 'Howa baht that -Hic!', the canopy is about to be replaced, automatic fly spray dispensers and clear canopies don't mix.
Brisfit as flown by Sir Keith Park, this is Rodens lovely kit which includes a exquisite RR Falcon III. The only mod make to this kit was a hand carved mahogany prop (not to arduous an chore with a dremel).
'Squawk' aka Douglas Skyhawk, Flight Lt TT Bland broke the sound barrier in this aircraft (NZ6203) the first RNZAF aircraft to do so. The Squawks are laid up pending sale same as the Aermachhis.
PBY5 Catalina, NZ4017 and her crew rescued 5 dumbos (downed airmen) from open ocean while serving over the pacific ocean.
Every now and then I model something outside my usual comfort zone of aircraft and purposely avoid the aircraft section in the model shop and pick something completely different like Dragons Stug III (or bissie!)!:
Grumman F9F panther, the leading edges of the wings, tail and tip tanks are carefully applied tinfoil :
A pair of Italeri P-51a Mustangs, one converted to one of the XP51 prototypes:
Lockheed Ventura, NZ4605 while stationed with No 15 SU Solomon Islands.
Spitfire Mk1 as flown by Kiwi ace Alan Deere:
Dornier Pfeil, another dragon gem the only addition I made was some wiring in the engine bays and a bits of etched brass in the cockpit:
North American Harvard, NZ1065 is still around and is seen & heard! in the air regularly as part of the 'Roaring Forties' Warbirds NZ aerobatics team:
