Ok. I am currently putting on the second 1mm lot of planking. At the moment I am doing the 2nd lot of planking below the recess in the ribs as told to do so in the magazine. So above this recess I only have the 1.5mm thick 1st lot of planking and from what I can see this won't have a second layer of planking (if I do add the second layer then the recess disappears which is wrong)? I am doing the R/C version and have seen some people mention this isn't good enough? I really don't want to rip this from the hull as I have used filler on the front end to get rid of all the gaps etc. I will be using Glattfix on the model, 2 coats in and 4 on the outside will this be ok to waterproof this area? Diagram: Also I am going to extend the planking up past the deck to help with waterproofing and am going to put a rubber/foam strip in to help as well. Should I put this strip between the deck and the planking or put it underneath the deck so it pushes down on it?

Dont panic!!! What you have drawn is 100% correct, there should only be one layer as shown. Those of us going afloat have decided to raise the top plank to cover the edge of the deck so as to improve looks and to help seal the hull. Would recommend any sealing strip goes under the deck, not at the side of it, as there it might jam and cause problems. I am leaving mine as a good fit with no sealing strip, as I feel that the chance of water getting on the deck to be very slight, even then, not a lot would get through (that is why I added the side stiffeners to my hull). Certainly glattfix the whole side, the top planks will then be not only be waterproof but stronger. On my boat I had to add an additional plank above the top one that Hachette have to extend upwards, See my notes on this elsewhere on the forum. Ideally, when first fitted, a deeper plank would have been better, but my model was too far advanced to do this. You model looks fine and is coming along nicely, keep up the good work!!!

Yes there is just 1 lot of planks above the armed belt this is not strong enough in an idle world you should have 2 if you are worried about it cut sum strips to go in between the rib on the inside and glue them in or as i have coved then in resin 2 coats this stiffens them up

My fitting of the side extensions are now on my part of the forum, under "SIDE EXTENSIONS".

Yeah swanrail I am going to do that mod, got the wood and the drawing pins And I have finished the reinforcing parts between frames too. Oh in that new post you haven't mentioned about using Sellotape like you did in one of the messages you sent me.

I have fitted an extra plank just as Swanrail has, it really makes the whole hull look so much better as it hides the edge of the deck behind the built up hull sides, the decking slots in with a very satisfying 'click', but I made sure I made a hole under Bruno turret so I could still lift the deck off!!!
