Would you believe, I managed to glue the first one of the ply sheets on backwards Just how stupid is that !! It was well and truly glued on with Evo-stik blue, and thoroughly dry when I realised. However, I did manage to get it off again, in one piece, without damaging it or the hull. A chemical engineer paint specialist once told me (very clever guy, but you don't want to get trapped in the pub next to him) that PVA is a thermosetting plastic. I.e. It melts when it gets hot. So I heated the ply part with an iron (set on 2 dots. dunno what that means - I don't do ironing.) After about a minute the glue had softened enough so that I could get a scalpel blade between the ply and the planked hull. Working a small area at a time, I slowly managed to prise the complete ply part off intact. All it will need is a sand and I will be able to re-use it. Even the score marks will still be on the inside as I can use it on the other side !! Breaths an enormous sigh of relief.........

Don't think it's the planking afkmatrix as they are not ply, well the ones I have so far aren't ply.

Afkmatrix. It's the ply parts that come in issues 37/38. Luckily I got the first one wrong.
Iron...... hmmmmm..... Hope I can get it clean before it's noticed...... Either that or, Darling, let me buy you a new iron, you know, that nice shiney one in the supermarket ?

Ha just looked at issue 38 and it actually has a mistake that could be very confusing. If you look at step 12 it is show that the two little holes on the ply cutout are facing towards the stern!! When in all the other pictures it is shown facing towards the bow!! So just to clarify the 2 small holes on the ply section should face the bow and the 2 larger holes face the stern correct??

Anyone else trying this method, use brown paper under the iron - this is also the way to iron on pre-glued edging with an iron without damaging the soleplate of the iron.

.....or just buy your own iron for modelling - no need for an expensive steam jobbie. I guess a cheapy from the super would do fine.
