Hi,
I have seen pics of people finished hulls and they have resin trangular housings on the outside of there hulls as well as strips of metal? supporting the prop shafts. Are these resin housings included in the hatchette issues or do we have to make them up?

I guess that Hachette will supply and accurate housing for the static model at least. On the Titanic series they were white metal castings. I'm hoping thaty they are the same here as I much prefer working with white metal that that horrible resin they used for the bow & stern. As far as the RC version goes, it's anybody's guess. There are some ply discs in the RC kit (in the German issue at least) but I haven't seen any details about how they are going to finish off the outside of the shaft. Are you fitting RC to your model ? I can't remember if you said you were or not. It's all pretty much guess work until we see what the Germans get. Personally I hope to be able to use a combination of the static and RC parts to get a working model which is still true to scale (but may not sail very fast ) Watch my web site for details of how I do it.

Hi Mark, Yes I am going R/C, should get markus's motors this week . I do hope they supply something as I think I would struggle to make something up tbh. I sucks that it doesn't seem to be in any of the German issues yet as surely its a better idea to attach these pieces and paint the hull in one go?

surely its a better idea to attach these pieces and paint the hull in one go? Yes, it certainly is !! You need a paint free hull to glue any more bits on securely. My plan is as follows. Complete the second planking, without fixing the bilge keels. Sand down, fill and re-sand. I'll then given a thin coat of primer and sand it off to reveal any small defects. Once that is finished I'll fit the bilge keels, prop shafts, and any other fittings and paint the finished hull. Of course, this will have to wait until the weather is warmer as I have to do any serious sanding outside, and it's bloomin cold here. -5 C this morning !!

I was one of the ones with the housings fitted for the outside two props. This is because: 1. I did not like the idea of fitting the prop shafts but leaving them unsupported and hence liable to get knocked and 2. i desperately wanted to get the finishing coats of paint on the underwater section of the hull. Hachette so far have given no idea when they will supply the necessary parts, but as the Germans are about 25 issues ahead of us, and there is still no sign with them, it loooks like at least another 6 months going on a year before the correct parts turn up! So I have made my fairings from scrap wood, carved, and guessed the shapes from pictures and the "book". Possibly not correct, but who cares?? The after end of the support in my case was also made from strips of wood, set into a wooden dowel torpedo shaped, again, as per the "book". I now have firmly fixed and waterproof props, all 3 of them! and a finished paint job on the lower hull which hopefully will safeguard it during much turning and manipulations on the top part of the hull. Cannot understand why Hachette could not provide these bits sooner, most frustrating!!!
