You could actually do Hachette on trade descriptions. No you cant There standard supply clause stating "items may vary from those shown" allows them to legally hide a multitude of sins, the supply of parts in there RC pack is a very good example at how they utilise this clause to the full, it's not good practice as its like showing you something you dont actually get but sadly there is not a thing you can do about it as they are leaglly covered on this

Markus, Just in case you haven't scrolled back to my earlier post, have you observed any reactions to the printed deck parts on the German forums? David. sorry, haven't noticed your question - too much penguins in here ;D seems like almost anyone in that german forum is satisfied with the printed parts... here's what glattfix did to my deck... the next parts look better, the printed lines are thinner and painted black instead of dark brown...

Looks OK to me, I don't fancy trying to duplicate some of the more detailed parts in there, I for one will be sticking with the supplied parts.
I've lost too much hair as it is without tearing more out planking the decks!!

On a serious note I personaly don't mind the look of the decks and think I will be using them when we get that far in the build.

Looking at the markus supplied decl planking sheets Could it be that when Hachette say the deck planking was to be "laser-cut deck planking" they actually meant the planking lines were laser burned onto sheeting, but then again if this was correct the lines would not then rub off when Glattfix was applied. So it has to be a printed deck lining they have supplied which is far from what was promised, but then again who fancies planking the deck plank by plank? I simply wish they would stop wetting appetites in showing parts or making statements about items they do not intend to supply, its deceitful in my book

Yep, will they suddenly decide to forgo the detail on the smaller AA guns for instance?

Ah you mean Hachette could just release a plastic moulded one.

Well why am i not surprised at that. I am a bit concerned that Hachette could take shortcuts and deviate from the glossy brochure supplied with issue 1 . Seen the start (and hoepfully) end of this with the printed deck pieces.

Hi All, Just come across this preview: www.subifa.de/heftvorschau/die_bismarck_Deck1.htmDoesn't look too bad but note the circular part being thinner on the right hand side than the left, if you know what I mean On second thoughts, I wouldn't fancy replicating that with individual planks!!!

It looks as if the whole of the print has shifted to the left, not just the circle bit, so if ours are like that, it will look a bit odd. Will wait and see if it is possible to make the proper planking when the time comes, have had other models with printed decks, and have always replaced them with the real thing, as I think that the printing spoils the look of the model, makes it seem too commercial!! The Titanic used a heavily grained wood, which was very close to real planks, but there they spoilt the vessel with printed cardboard "windows", etc.

Cheers for your thoughts Don, glad you understood what I was trying to point out. Don't somehow think Hachette will change their minds about this and my worry about creating the planks myself (being a so called beginner) is that I might not have the skills necessary to do a good job?
