Dive in Napoleon!!! I started off (many moons ago) by making some planking on scrap wood and with matches!!!(dead ones of course). I then sanded down until almost no match was left!! for my next test run, I mixed up cascamite wood glue with some black paint and stuck the match stick down with those, allowing some of the glue to ooze up between the planks, this gave me the caulking, again looked best when sanded down. Here, try 1mm wood on end and about 2mm or so wide. I now use the clear wood glue to fasten down and paint one side of the 2 or so mm with black paint to represent caulking, and sand down. If you stick the planks onto the printed suface, this will show you the exact lengths of wood for each plank, and by using the marquetry technique with a craft knife you can cut in the wider side planks. (as a test, try photocopying the wooden deck as supplied, glue the paper to scrap wood and try out your techniques as above as practice makes perefect!! Be brave though as your namesake was!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Definitely not the Isle of Wight, you might meet up with King Charles in Carisbrook Castle, or fail to amuse Queen Victoria! I am hoping in the next few weeks to look at trying out a build of the deck as shown using "real" planks. If successful, will publish my findings.

What should the watchman's huts look like? (There's probably a better technical term!). On Mark's latest pictures, they're left and right of where Kilroy is standing. Looking at picture's of Kaiser's 1/100 model, and the 1/100 model on Mark's links page, they seem to be of different heights and with different number of windows.
Haven't started my HMV card Bismarck yet, and can't spot which style they use!

Hi Lads, Further to my earlier posts regarding the printed deck sheets: Here is the latest reply have received from Hachette. It should be noted that I did not mention any issue numbers with them: Thank you for your e-mail dated: 05/11/2007. Kindly note our accounts executives are currently in contact with our supplier and are sorting this matter out. (as we have not ordered our part for issue 60 yet!). Please note something will be posted on the forum to reassure the customers. Not too sure what forum they are referring to but looks like they are at least looking at this matter. Fingers crossed eh?

Interesting! I expect to get the identical response to my email in due course. I spoke today with a trading standards person who was sure that we would have a very stong case of misrepresentation against Hachette, under the1979 Sale of Goods Act, if they went ahead and supplied printed decks. This is based not on the promotional photos (for which there is a disclaimer), but on the detailed description in words of the laser cut planks. I was advised to write a registered letter to Hachette reminding them of their obligations. David.

Have any of you seen the German version of the mag? In issue 63 , there is a signal platform, looks like it's made with a quite thick brass base. It may be a bit of a sod to put together, so many fiddly bits. It looks terrific when finished. We are so far behind that it is an advantage for us, because the germans have gone through all the problem bits and at least we can have the benefit of their experience. Good glueing, have a nice week.
Gerry.

Hi rem2007,
Just read step 06 and you will find that the protruding edge of part 141 should go into the slot on part 143. Part 141 is what actually sits on the central spar!!

PH,
There is a slight curvature to the deck so I would recommend you build it in situ.

I put cling film over the deck first......pevented any premature bonding of deck and superstructure!!

I used the blue masking tape from B&Q on the deck.
