Hello all, I am new to the forum and have found the various comments very helpful. I am especially concerned about the laser cut/printed veneer issues with the deck planking and shall be contacting Hachette in due course to order the laser cut planks.
My concern at present is with issue 29 and the construction of the superstructure as regards assembling parts122 and 123. The instructions state that 'the cabin structure needs to follow the slight incline of the deck in the bow and stern areas'. What incline? My main deck is absolutely flat, all the planks and beams supplied were flat and square and the instructions at no point mentioned introducing any fore and aft incline (or for that matter any curvature across the deck).
I note from various drawings, pictures and the specifications of the ship that the bow and stern were slightly higher than the maindeck and that the deck height from the keel should start to increase approximately 200mm forward of amidships and 260mm aft of amidships. The foredeck appears to have a slight incline but unless the main deck is also inclined to match, the deck will appear to be 'kinked' at the joint between the maindeck and foredeck.
The only way that I can see to correct this problem is to cut through the underside of the deck where the incline should start, screw the centre section to the hull and then insert packing between the deck and supporting ribs to force the fore and aft sections up at the correct angles.
I would welcome any comments on this issue.
