Joined at last, been following the site for over a year. I am building the model with my 11 year old grandson Thomas. The site has been a great help. We are building the R/C version and hope to sail it in the Caledonian Canal as we live in Fort William. Colin

Caledonian Canal:
I grew up in Dun Laoghaire on Dublin Bay in Ireland. A sister of a schoolfriend married a Norwegian. Visiting Ireland, walking down the pier they overheard some Norwegians talking, so they stopped for a chat.
These other Norwegians were delivering a yacht from France to Norway via the Caledonian Canal, avoiding the English Channel. Makes sense, but I wouldn't have thought of it.

Hi Colin, Welcome aboard. How are the midgies this year. Was through that way years ago, very pretty countryside, reminds me alot of BC, you know, 'the true north strong and free'. How far have you and your grandson got in the issues? Just started our little guy with model planes, but now the weather's nice he is always out with his mates. Don't worry about the crazies in here, they are harmless. You'll have to post some pictures of your build for us. Robert

Hello grandad 14!
Welcome to the forum.
I see you live just up the road from me......bet you've got the same lousy weather I have! Not sure the canal has ever had a Battleship sail through it before!!!

Hi Robert We are up to issue 69 but slowing down as like you, Thomas is out most nights playing. The midges are as bad as usual eating locals and visitors in equal numbers. I am a railwayman and this is the first boat I have built will hopefully sort photos out soon. Colin

I am also on issue 69, and have installed R/C gear, and am now waiting for my friend to help me dry test it. I left the boat in the bath for 7 hours and could not see any leaks.
