I would like to make my turrets operational too, much in the same fashion as Alain's.
I thinking of linking all the turrets together on 4 servos and on 1 radio channel . I realize that the aft turrets will need to be reversed but can anyone foresee any other issues with this idea?

Martin - www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4024.0 linking all turrets with unmodified servos will work but this results in ultra-fast turrets, simply following the transmitter's stick without any delay.... btw: nice to see you're back again... markus

Martin, there's a lot of stuff here on working turrets.
Check some of the diaries, or Marcus's pages - maybe someone can give a specific reference?

I was more thinking about any foreseeable issues with 4 servos on one channel, anyone tried that?

2 on one channel is no problem at all. Not sure if 4 would overload things or not - probably not if you're only driving turrets, which have almost no load on them.

it doesn't matter how much servos per channel are used, you just have to keep an eye on total power consumption using 4 mini servos for the turrets works if: a) a battery box for rx supply is used or b) your ESC delivers more than 1amps BEC-current drain some cheap esc's are capable of only 1amps BEC which may be a bit too weak for supplying receiver, rudder servo, v-mixer, 4 turret servos, ... markus

Hi Marcus,
Just starting to assemble the radio gear to make the turrets rotate, (but probably not elevate), I take it that Anton, Bruno, Caesar and Dora are all about 55mm across the base.... for robustness and cost, I'm thinking of fitting standard sis servos (Futaba 3003) will these fit OK?
Also for control of the turret servos, I'm looking at installing a "servo slow" and one of these instead of modifying the servos:
180° Servo Stretcher www.servocity.com/html/180o_servo_stretcher.html
Regards, Martin

is this a site from the states and would you have to pay duty on their gear?

Oh, nice find Matrin, I think two of those will shortly be winging their way my direction. That and a servo slow should be just about perfect. I can live with a 180 swing instead of the full 275 that the real thing had. Also means that I can (possibly) fit a servo to the range finder, so that the range finder will move to position quickly, followed by the turrets moving to the same bearing but more slowly. How cool will that be I'm sort of toying with the idea of only motorising the forward turrets, and leaving the rear turrets static. Just for simplicity of control.......

Sounds like an interesting idea. Also more realistic as well. But I thought the range finder and radar were on the same part of the ship, or am I just not looking at the right parts. I'm going to all 4 turrets, hopefully. Well rotating anyway.

Did the Bismarck have a Radar ? I thought marine radar came in towards the end of the war. Could be wrong though.......

www.kbismarck.com/controltiri.htmlThis article gives a reasonable explanation. The radars were fixed to the ragne finders. They weren't the rotating radar scanners that we are used to seeing today.
