Thanks for the cut-out picture Markus. Will now think seriously about the mod myself, but will have to wait until I get the deck template to find the correct positions for the gun bases. Be nice to get back to some serious work again after all these fiddly brass bits!

Markus just a quick question. The Grey rings that the turret will sit on (Barbette)? In you picture.
What are you using to make them? Are they made out of wood?

it's the mdf barbette discs from issue 102...
simply drilled a 16mm hole (32mm for the big guns) into them...

Thanks a lot Markus. Each issue seems to get smaller brass bits and harder to fit, does that mean that the hangars are even worse? p.s. did you get the boat supports for the after hangar, or is it Hachette putting things out of sequence again...........

the hangars were more difficult than anything before. some parts were triangular shaped at the size of less than 3mm x 2mm... p.s: sorry, don - no sign of the other supports by now... markus

markus[/quote] Thanks for the information Markus. I did not realise that we were getting these issued. Look good. Your hangars look very impressive. Although I am not looking forward to the brass work. What type of paint are you using? Is it a spray gun or can? Its the cleaning of the spray gun that frightens me. 300 guard rails. Now that could drive you mad. I wait to see if an alternative can be found. All best

i'm using spray paint from our local DIY shop all colors are primer paint with matt finish, perfect for a battleship only disadvantage is the price of 7 euros for a single 400ml can... also i prefer throwing empty cans away instead of cleaning the gun after each usage... ;D markus

I am with you markus, using spray cans. The thought of cleaning spray heads is enough to put me off that tack. In the long run, I doubt if there is a great deal of difference in costs for both alternatives. In my case, after the bismarck doubt if I would find any use for a spray kit. You model is looking good, although the funnel will look better when all of its brass bits go on (more magnifying glass work?) Ref the side rails, all 300 of them, I am thinking along the lines of one of the other modellers (Peter Benheim I think) who has laid his rails flat as they were in battle. It would be much simpler and easier to do that than drill 300 holes plus with a sailing model much less prone to damage when launching and recovering.

looks good markus!! that space between the funnel and the aft hangar so reminds me of a game called call of duty! there was a level where you had to do something on the tirpitz ( forgot what, but bottom line is I ended up shooting lots of german sailors, very original and all that ), and that area is where a major shootout takes place... awesome multiplayer map too with lots of snipers on the bridge against infantry on the fore deck ;D oops, getting carried away again... ontopic: I think I might use those railing posts, looks like a lot of work but I usually finish assembling the parts within a hour, leaving me waiting in pure boredom for four weeks... at least this might prove a challenge My guess is hachette wants to use yarn to simulate chains between the posts, will probably not look too bad, but gotta be very arefull not to yank out some of the post while pulling the yarn through the holes... by the way, does anyone know the answer to this question? asked it earlier in the thread but was most likely not seen ;D

Hi Markus, Your build continues to look terrific, the more so now that you've got some paint on it. I'm getting depressed, but not totally discouraged, by how little time I've had this last 6 months to work on my model. Those stanchions look like Heracles' 13th labour! Are Hachette really expecting us to drill holes and then glue them in place, and then thread them too? I think I know what is coming next, individual chain links for the railings! David
