Have just recived issues 12, 13, 14 and 15 and have eagerly read through the construction stages with refrence to planking the hull and the cut outs for prop shafts i have read somewhere that the cut outs need to enlarged before planking has any one done this yet and by how much did you enlarge i was thinking of using a 5mm dia drill bit.

In my notes in the r/c section describing the fitting of the central prop shaft, I also mentioned that if you use the type of prop shaft supplied by Markus, you will then need to enlarge the "slots" in frame 39 as those supplied are too small. You need to enlarge to take a 4mm shaft, so I used a 4.5mm drill. Note that this should ideally done BEFORE planking in that area, else can cause possible damage! Note the "holes" in frame 13 are of no consequence as the shaft will be well above them using the Markus set up. Any oversizing can be filled in later with a glue such as Araldite.

Just finished the Markus mod to parts 36 and 37 for the central shaft. Unlike Don I was able to complete this before fitting. I can now see the problems you must have had Don. It was no fun even when I had it on the bench. I glued 36 to 37 then added reinforcing plates to one side. Turned it over cut out the 10 mm and added reinforcing plates all done. When I fitted it I also added some small triangle shaped strength pieces to 23 which gives strength to the joint of 36/37 and 23.

(my keel plate had a bit less than 4mm thickness) markus
