As promised here's my build diary
My photos start from after completion of the first layer of planking as I was so keen to get building I forgot to take some pics
didn't do anything to different for the basic hull structure just drawing a center line on the keel plates and ribs as recommended by Mark and using thick and thin CA's rather than PVA. For the planking I waited for all the planks to arrive for the first layer and then spent a wet weekend up to my ears in planks, pins and CA ;D
No special techniques, just double checked the fit of each plank and cut to shape or chamfered the edge if needed before it was glued and pinned. I only to had to steam two planks at the stern, all in all the planking so far has not been to bad, especially compared to the Del Prado Bounty which I built a few years ago.
(apologies if you have already seen a couple of the pics in my introduction)
This is the hull after the first layer of planks were done and sanded down:
Top view with the partially completed deck:
and the bow, I followed Marks Example and sanded the curves off the 1st rib to better fit the planks and then sanded the bow to a nice curvy shape:
I've decided to not order the Hattchette R/C bits, even though we got the order slip with issue 8 here in NZ, but will select my own R/C bits and bobs, any way it s a good excuse to treat myself to a new computer Radio ;D
For the make it go department I've installed two SAB 540's and SAB M3/6.5mm Prop shafts with SAB 30mm M3 universal joints to get the prop shaft to sit at the right angle. SAB is one those very small businesses that specialize in just one thing, top quality bits for R/C boats at a reasonable price ;D and is NZ based, Bonus!
The only thing lacking is the propellers as all that's available here is 30mm right handed propellers, left hand are as rare as hens teeth round here so I will need to order a set of the web.
Enough prattling on, time for more pics.
Overall view of motor installation with prop shafts in for a trail fit and after the inside was fibreglassed and resined:
Motor to prop shaft connection via 30mm universal joints:
Close up of the universal joint:
and the prop shaft exit from the hull:
And there you go for my progress up to issue 18 which will have to be on hold for a bit as there was a wee snafu with the distribution of parts and all we got was the deck mounting blocks & half a fore deck the other bit is being ordered but ETA is ??
Ah well, roll on issue 19.......
