:(having never installed a radio control I find the instructions and pictures in the hachette instruction booklet to be a bit confusing' Can someone help? The stern tubes supplied come with a part to hold the stern tube to the axle is this part removed along with the grub screw prior to the stern tube being placed into the bearer as per instruction 8. Secondly in picture 8 the axle appears to extend beyong the cog wheels but in picture 28 it is flush, does this mean it should be cut to fit? Lastly in instruction 20 it refers to a sheet what and where do i find this?
Hope someone can help a novice builder. thanks

I'm not doing the Hachette R/C kit myself, but I know several board members are, so I'm sure someone will be able to help!

Philip welcome. Mark has some information on the Hachette R/C under Detailing and Radio Control found on the Grey page just before you sign into the forum. Like Eric I cannot help. I am fitting the Markus three prop version. However I am sure that there are lots going to fit the Hachette gear and will be only to pleased to help you but are still involved with brass and hulls at the moment.

Dear Philip1. I am using the Hachette radio control and motors, more or less as in the plans (I have separate motor controls so that each shaft can be separately controlled when the rudder moves). See my photo site for details: www.flickr.com/photos/commander-popeye/Picture 28 in the instructions is incorrect - DON'T cut the shaft. The back end of the shaft does stick out of the large gear by about 1/2 inch so that when you put the plastic back on the gear box, the shaft sticks out enough to fix a collar (the thick metal ring with a retaining grub screw in it) on the shaft, which prevents the shaft moving backwards and forwards when running (but you will see that I have fitted extra collars to transmit the force from the prop shaft to the hull, rather than just depending on fixing the gearbox to the hull). Yes, you have to take the collars off to position the propshaft in its tube and get the gears on. You have to position the gearbox and motor so that the prop end of the shaft is in the right place (with the screw thread fully clear of the outer tube of the propshaft) and you have that bit of shaft sticking out of the back of the gearbox. Its also a good idea to file a small flat on the shaft where the retaining/grub screw in the large gear wheel holds the gear onto the propshaft and where the small gear wheel fits on the motor shaft (this lessens the risk of the gearwheel slipping on a perfectly round shaft and the boat failing to move). Sods law says that the screws will loosen when the boat is in the middle of the pond !! I use brass propellors (see my photos) and I drilled a small hole in the propellor boss and put a grub screw in there as well (with a flat filed on the propshaft) to ensure that the prop stayed on and fixed to the shaft (as well as using a shakeproof washer screwed up against the prop) Any more help, just ask.
